You might remember a couple of years back when we were getting scratchy wins by one goal that we played Newcastle and won by five or so which was out of sync with all the other results. After that we returned to one goal wins again so it's imperative that we follow this with a similar score against Burnley.
Lovely stuff. Too often I feel everyone's out for themselves when we got a couple of goals up but today that didn't really happen until we went 4 up, which is fair enough. When we're playing well so many players look totally at home in the side, it's so easy to write them off but it's a talented bunch. Chiriches, Rose, Soldado and Townsend are the main ones I'm thinking of. Might've lost my Bournemouth/Spurs double but I won £20 on Schalke Leverkusen and stuck 5 on Kane to score the 3rd goal and 15 on Spurs to win by 3 or more when we were 2 up. Would've been more but I was putting a tenner on Soldado and it froze the bet, with the bloody stream I was watching the ball trickle out for a throw as we must've been scoring the 4th. Ah well, I'm up for the season now and by my standards that's a miracle! Good day
Big chance of a trophy for Spurs- especially with MK Dons out. Feel good factor back at Spurs and Liverpool after tonight. So the League Cup's stock is rising again.
Certainly up there for our best game of the year, though Newcastle looked dispirited from the start. I thought the win against Swansea was a big one, and was hoping we might take it up a notch. We looked very good going forward, and made better choices with the ball, getting it into empty areas better. We also did a bit better making decisions defending, but we still need a lot of work there. We handed a team that was getting outworked by a wide margin three or four great chances. Still, it was very nice to watch Eriksen pulling the strings on a fluid attacking performance. I have to say I was impressed with Chiriches. He's always good for a howler or two, but he creates all sorts of problems for the other team with his tackling, interceptions, passing and shooting. Dembele was very good. I think he needs to play as an attacking midfielder. It's his circular dribbling and sideways passing from a deep lying position that slows down our buildup. If he gets the ball only when he's near the box he really worries defenders.
I'm pleasantly surprised, but we really need to take them seriously and work our asses off in that game. They'll be really up for it. Strongest side and homework done, please.
It's certainly the draw we wanted, but I'm not counting any cockerels. Sheffield did to Southampton exactly what works against us: get a third of the ball and 6/7 of the shots on goal. I'll be in the strange position of rooting hard for Liverpool.
I think you're right SD. What I don't want is a bad 1-0 at the weekend because it means tonight was just a one off. I'm saying three or four nil again. Now boys, do not get too confident, minnows have beaten the big fish before. I'm staying well down. Very happy with tonight.
That's what I've been thinking. It's also a very young bunch, many of them recent arrivals, with a new, young coach. Teams of that description have been known to improve.
Exactly right. As PNP said, we have to prepare and play properly. If we do that, over 2 legs, we should win. But only if we take them seriously.
"I'll be in the strange position of rooting hard for Liverpool" Under normal circumstances, yes. But against The Chavs??...
