Opta have only been keeping records on saves since the start of the 2003-4 season, but in that time Green is also in top spot for the most saves in a season with 178 for Norwich during 2004-5. Norwich went on to be relegated at the end of that campaign.
Another current top flight 'keeper features next with Ben Foster making 170 saves during Birmingham’s 2010-2011 campaign, while Jussi Jaaskelainen pulled off 166 stops for West Ham during the 2012-13 season.

    So ...

Oh. Thanks. Though most stats are generally useless in the real world, they are still interesting to read.

How many games has McGregor played for you this season? Wasn't he injured early on?

Makes stats like these irrelevant really.

It is. You said irrelevant but what I would guess you meant is that they are without context.

Unless you introduce some sort of save quality coefficient, these stats mean very little.

How do you define a save?

Some saves are beyond the abilities of most players ('Ol One Eyed Banksie in 70 and Jim 'Im sa brad Mackam tha' nay facka'll ifva unnastan a fackin wad' im sain' Montgomery in 73 spring to mind.)

Others are so straightforward that your Granny could make them.

So unless you're going to rate them, it's hardly worth counting them.

I personally don't see this as a way of rating a goalkeeper when I read these stats, doubt anyone will claim that Rob Green is the best goalkeeper the prem has seen since 2003-04

Unless somebody can be arsed to work out the saves/shots ratio these statistics are largely useless.

If a keeper has more saves to make, does that not highlight his teams defensive weaknesses? Rob Green has lots of saves to make, but only because he plays for QPR, if he was at Spurs or Arsenal, he wouldn't have nearly as much to do. That said, I suppose he's judged on his ability to save shots.

Useless stats much like Davies last season the stats favour keepers under pressure. Top 3 keepers right now are clearly courtois, david de gea and joe hart
