Bought my eldest the DVD of Guardians of the Galaxy as one of her prezzies. I didn't get to the flicks to see it, but it was highly recommended by 2 lads in the office. Watched it on Friday. I've ordered her 'Scanners' instead <laugh>

What? Guardians or Scanners? Guardians was OK, but nothing special. I'll watch it again over the weekend. It may have been my frame of mind at the time.

Scanners, however, is a Cronenberg Classic <ok>

    Just watching the Apprentice.

Half way through, I'll be stunned if Mark & Bianca aren't in the final.

lol I heard about that, apparantly its about a supposed "terrorist plot" to assassinate Kim Jong Un.
Theres a scene where he is incinerated in a helicopter blast, and because political mandate in North Korea dictates that their ruler be given god status, they have classed the movie as Heresy and cursed all those involved in making the movie.

Beyond stupid to make that film. How the script ever even got the green light (forgetting the rampant right-wingedness of Hollywood execs and their hatred of any different system to capitalism (not that I condone Kim Jong Un and N Korea at all) is beyond me. I know guys lets make a film that concerns the White House sanctioned murder of a currently serving head of state and not expect there to be any amount of controversy.

On the other hand I know it's fiction and what worries me is the implications this will have on the freedoms of writers, artists and comedians to engage in political satire in America and elsewhere, since where America leads most of the rest of the world normally follow. Clearly North Korea is repressive but capitulating to there madness seems a negative step back. But then I think what would the US's reaction be if a North Korean production company made a film about the assassination of Obama. Knowing how many numbskulls operate in American politics they'd probably think it was a documentary and/or real footage and airstrike the place.
