It's amazing really, because in terms of pure footballing talent Lamela is miles ahead for me. But this proves that football is simply not all about talent. Kane is mentally twice the player and gets the very best out of his talent through sheer work ethic and having the right mentally aka not being a pussy.

I think that Lamela's actually applying himself pretty well in virtually every game, including a sub appearance away in Greece in the Europa League on a **** pitch.
He doesn't seem to have open strops or just stroll about and avoid the ball, for example.
We're not getting the best out of him, by any means, but I think that's to do with how he's being used.

Lamela applies himself well and people say he has a good attitude, which I can believe. I would say that Kane applies himself more effectively though and probably has the better footballing brain of the two, as well as being no slouch technically. Lamela is probably ahead of him in that department though. On Lamela (and I know I keep coming back to it) the best summing up of him so far at Spurs came from a commentator during the game when he scored his rabona goal - he's at his best when he has no time to think. He's tried to do too much on occasion when given time and space to think, whereas Kane has had the knack of largely getting it right so far this season.

Nothing wrong with Lamela's work ethic, his end product is very poor at the moment though.

Kane fits into the system excellently and at the moment is benefiting from playing in the most free role in the system. The wider players are required to do far more tracking back into their own half than he is. Take nothing away from him though, he's the form player in our side and getting the recognition his performances deserve.

Kane has shone in whatever role he's played. He's got more of a free role, because a) he's the one whose performances have merited it and b) he works his bloody socks off to get around the park.

Kane has scored 3 PL goals this season and some of our fans are treating him like he's Messi.

Yeah he's done well the last few months but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

Good point. We, as football fans, really should not get excited by an academy graduate breaking into the first team, making things happen every time, scoring a few goals (must be more per minute than we've seen for some time), working hard and looking, every game, like a proper Premier League player - one who has been nurtured at Spurs. What are we thinking?!

Sorry - just messing. I just think it's pretty understandable to get excited by a youngster from the academy breaking into the team and doing very well. Why not? It's not like he's just appeared on the scene, either. His debut must have been years ago now but he's taken his time, kept at it, kept maturing and now we have a very able-looking young player who is confident, at home and comfortable in the first team.

His ability and promise alone would set us back 10m or so in the transfer market at least right now but his attitude and the fact he's grown up at the club possibly doubles or trebles that value to us.

Can we not just enjoy Kane's superb form while it lasts? We all moan when things go bad and yet when something's going good we can't seem to enjoy it without someone saying don't get too excited. Seeing an academy graduate become one of our key players this season is something all Spurs fans can take great pride in, lets not forget he was superb in the last month or so of last season when he got his chances. Our academy is really starting to produce some great talent and the likes of Kane, Mason and Nabil are leading the way for others to follow suit. Lets celebrate the small success stories and not worry about a potential loss of form in the future which may not even happen.

Kane could lose form like any other player. Strikers are especially prone to doing so. But he seems to plow along pretty steadily, doing about what he did the second part of last year in his few games in the PL this year. The thing he's good at is having the intelligence and workrate to be near the goal when the ball is. If we can continue to create more chances, I think he'll be fine.

And, yes, no doubt the good story of the year for us is the academy products breaking into the lineup and performing very well.

I would really like to see Kane score a couple. He hasn't missed by much.

King's largely right about Kane only just breaking through, but I think that he's definitely shown a lot of potential recently.
I'm sure that Jonathan Pierce said that he'd scored something like 19 in 26 games this season, if you include his success with the England U21 side.

Having a young player break into the side is always nice. Seeing one with Kane's work rate and attitude is even better.
If all of the emerging talents show his level of application, then we'll be onto something very good.
That he pairs that with an eye for goal is extremely encouraging.
