Our greatest ever manager ever from being close to relegation to league one to the premiership and keeping us up in the 1st season, to almost keeping us in the 2nd but being sacked, he had his bad times ofcourse but he's our greatest manager ever bruce got us promoted with a brilliant squad, an fa cup final but it was the easiest run probably in the cups history, lost a 2 goal lead and now in his 2nd season HAS a worst record after 16 games than brown HOW anyone can diss brown is a disgrace.. he truly is our best manager ever, no one in a million years thought after the almost relegation would get top flight promotion, and he took us up.. please log in to view this image this man is a legend in the history of this football club. how people forget
i mean browns singing on the pitch at the end, he f**ing loved the club, from close to league one to premier league survival, anyone who met him around the city, he f**ing ADORED the club.. he's exactly what our club is about.. and to any city fan at the kc that day, was one of the greatest days in the clubs history.. manager connecting with his fans people defend bruce yet say **** about brown. he made mistakes.. but he's our best manager ever not a daft pretender
see this is why this club is ridiculous.. brown is hated by many the worst run this club has been on is under bruce brown, took us from near league one relegation to premier league survival and had a better run than bruce in the 2nd season yet bruce has spent more..
Love him or hate him he was the first to take us where no other before him ever could , for that one acheivment alone you have to respect him.
plus he at this stage has a better record than bruce how could ANYONE hate brown? ofcourse he made mistakes..but he took us beyond the possibility, the best manager ever
what's your point? bruce had a much superior squad for promotion it's typical, brown should have a statue at the kc imho.. amount of suckups to bruce is pathetic.. he's clueless
he does though, bruce had a pro squad for the championship, hence the promotion, why any fans of our club wouldn't put brown on a pedestal is beyond me
and yet, despite the ravages of financial hardship, the absurdity of e.u. law, and the depletion of stocks, the fishermen of hull still find something to occupy their time.
For taking us up for the first time in our history, Brownie will always be a legend and at the time he was our best manager ever. I can't remember anyone on here denying that, I may be wrong. Brownie took us up via the play offs which was an achievement in itself but Brucie took us up automatically which in my eyes was better than Brownie's achievement. Brucie took us to our first FA Cup final and if it wasn't for the FA Cup we'd probably had finished higher in the league that year. I'd never denigrate Brownie, as I said above, he's a Club legend but Brucie's achievements have superceded Brownie's.
so despite bruce spending more in jan and more in the summer, he has a a worse 2nd season than brown, bruce is apparently better?
You do know we have a much larger revenue than Brown did? Relatively speaking they've spent a similar amount.
Some very interesting figures for you who are 'Statistical Barmy' (source Wikipedia): Statistically, our most successful Manager was Billy Russell who Managed the Club for one game, won it, and therefore has a Winning Ratio of 100%. Bobby Brown comes next after Managing the Club for 19 games with a Winning Ratio of 52.63%. Collin Appleton has quite remarkable figures having Managed the Club for 91 games with a Winning Ratio of 51.64% but then came back and Managed the Club for 16 games with a pathetic Winning Ratio of 6.2%. Brian Little had a Winning Ratio 0f 42.26 from 97 games. Raich Carter Managed the Club for 157 games for a Winning Ratio of 47.13. Cliff Britton Managed the Club for 406 games with a Winning Ratio of 41.87. Nick Barmby Managed the Club for 33 games with a Winning Ratio of 39.39%. Steve Bruce has Managed the Club for 120 games for a Winning Ratio of 38.33%. Nigel Pearson Managed the Club for 64 games with a Winning Ratio of 35.94%. Phil Brown Managed the Club for 157 games with a Winning Ratio of 33.12%. We cannot really compare 'stats' as keeping up a Winning Percentage over a longer period would, I believe, be a better achievement and again, keeping up a Winning Percentage at a higher level would also be considered as far better. Raich Carter, at 37 years of age, although in the old Third Division North, brought the crowds back to Boothferry Park and not only Managed but played on the pitch as well. Cliff Britton, again at the lower level, has a fine record over 406 games. Phil Brown was the first Manager to take the Club into "The Promised Land" and will therefore have his name etched into the history of Hull City. Steve Bruce took us into our first FA Cup final and from there into Europe so will also be remembered. Who was our greatest Manager - a question that will spark many a debate. An old Scottish friend of mine once said that you could ask 40 different Scotsmen which was the best Whiskey and you would get 40 different answers. I would imagine the same would apply to that question.
No matter what anyone says, Brown did a "better" job. He took over an awful squad destined for relegation and dragged us to promotion to the Prem within 18 months. Bruce took over a former Prem team with a good budget for transfers and the benefit of parachute payments and the changed mentality of a former top flight club. Brown also had to sell his best player whereas Bruce has spent (relative) shedloads.
Brown also had a "Championship Level" goalscorer in Fraizer Campbell who's (15?) goals made us formidable at that level.
