Twitter has been quite active over the last few days regarding Tom. http://twitter.com/#!/search/tom cairney A lot of LFC fans reckon he's signing for them. I'm guessing they have just thought he's the only good (I use this term loosely) young player we have and that they must be getting him as part of the friendly.
well there apprently stupid enough to be paying 20 million for downing, so it could be true..dalglish used to be one of my footballing heroes, now im worried hes mentally ill..
I think the Liverpool fans have put two and two together and got five. Unless Kenny just watched Tom's PL highlights, he hasn't done anything else to warrant a move to Liverpool.
Liverpool fan in peace. We ain't heard this rumour over on our board. I don't trust Twitter so i'll wait until it is confirmed (If it is confirmed!) Anyway, if we are interested, I wouldn't mind knowing something about him. 1) What position does he play? 2) How has he performed for you? 3) Do you think he is Premier League class? Cheers. Good luck for next season.
1- Midfield. 2- He did all right (nowt spectacular) for a poor team in the premier league. He wasn't that great in the championship last year, but the team (as a whole) was crap for more than half of it. I'm willing to give him a chance this season. It's deffo a big year for the lad. 3- No. Tar good luck to the scousers.
1. The reserves 2. Good Premiership up to a point, although he did have some games in which you wouldn't have known he was on the pitch. 3. Maybe, given the right coaching and his own mindset being right.
He scored a great goal vs Everton, maybe that was noticed, other than that why would LFC be interested? Mind you he couldn't do worse than Poulsen.. He went off when Boateng left, George brought the best out of him.
All you need to know about Tom Cairney is that he was out injured for 3 weeks because he spilt some hot water on his leg.
This story is bollocks and I'm pretty sure it's evolved from some joker posting on football-rumours.com that Liverpool were buying Tom Cairney for £10m. It came just between the rumour that we'd bid £50m for Messi, with Harper going the other way and the rumour that young striker Paul Weller had just signed for non-league Malice Town(which to be fair, is quite a good one).
While it's probably bollocks, Cairney is more of a Premier League footballer than he is a Championship footballer. His game is better suited and his attitude probably suits it too. He's not got the pace to be a top player. I said it after the Southend game a couple of years ago. Quotes are out there on the internet. He hasn't got a third gear.
He definitely looked better in the Premier League than he does in the Championship, in fact, against Chelsea he was skipping past Deco and Lampard and looked a world beater, but he does seem more interested in Facebook than football.
Deano's never been a top player. Jan Molby retired nearly 20 years ago. Lampard's a good athlete. Beckham has spectacular delivery and an astonishing work ethic. Pace isn't everything but it's more important with every season in modern football. There's also a difference between not having pace and being slow. Tom is slow.
