correct. well done CNM. ok, as there is no net there (unbelieveable) I will do 2. 2. send a text to east africa with 10 bucks alex lost in yankee mail. 3. decorative fletch flies but only upto a hundred ok, out for another hour or so and will come back to finsh
Same! I am trying very hard Miggins, as I'm sure are others, but I was never any good at the cryptic crosswords. Oh yeah... BOOM! I got Vettel! (with the last pick too!)
I guess ill just have to sit and wait for CNM to tell me who was who. I'm hopeless with these things.
Hmmm, I'm really struggling with these! I'm clearly not thinking about them in the right way, which is annoying. Well done on setting them though, they're better than mine last week, you've definitely raised the bar. Although I'm worried if the bar goes much higher you'll need a degree in criminology to solve these in future!
By which do you mean you don't recognise the name? Or because they haven't posted here your mod powers are useless?
I can do that (gone), but I have never seen said member posting on the F1 board As for guessing Miggins numbers I think I may have one and the other I already knew as I had remembered it from the list
a hint? ok. no 3. decorative fletch is silver arrow, and the rest of the clue is actually 2 clues that give the same answer. no. 2. send text to east africa. is the player. 10 bucks alex lost in yankee mail is the driver, and part US slang. I'll put in some more 4. Black-belt gets mixed up church service 5. Barneys mate had US gas victor replacing learner driver. 6. definitely worthy of accolade, but the magic letter has left on his own. and?
haha, i only had 8 to do and got 2 of the players mixed up (although, tbh it doesn't really matter the clues remain the same) I'll put all 8 down 1. Frisco dancers confused at enviable tests (westcoatboogaloo - Sebastian Vettel) 2. send text to east Africa 10 bucks alex lost in yankee mail 3. Decorative fletch mark carb with second grade somewhere in the middle (silver arrow, ) 4. Black-belt gets mixed up church service 5. Barneys mate had US gas victor replacing learner driver. 6. definitely worthy of accolade, but the magic letter has left on his own. and? 7. orange legend flies but upto a hundred (sorry) 8. derranged he'd fled I went somewhere invitingly primitive. once again, sorry, lol. (that's what happens with no mods about)
These are great clues, sometimes with multiple layers ("carb" is brilliant), and I don't want to have to abandon them the way we did with DHCanary's fascinating mathematical clues (a technique that absolutely needs to be revived for a future sweepstakes) because we're out of time. To avoid that, I hope Miggins won't mind me offering some additional hints to try to make this easier... 1. 'Frisco dancer's confused at enviable tests. As you now know, 'Frisco = West Coast and the Boogaloo is a dance. Watch out for words like 'confused' or 'mixed-up' - they're very specific modifiers of the words that appear before or after them. 2. Send text to East Africa: 10 bucks Alex lost in Yankee mail. [I can't actually get this one from the clue. If it was West Africa then I'd say think of the forum rather than your phone and a place modified by the number provided to get the player's name. By the process of elimination I can guess the driver but English poets and partial anagrams aside I don't see his name in there.] 3. Decorative fletch mark carb with second grade somewhere in the middle. You know what fletching relates to, now take each word or phrase by itself and stick to British English. 4. Black belt gets mixed up church service. Think of the level he had to reach and, well, a church service. 5. Barney's mate had US gas victor replacing learner driver. Think Hanna Barbera, British English and abbreviations. 6. Definitely worthy of accolade but the magic letter has left on his own. And? Be thesaurusly descriptive and then take it letter by letter and pair by pair. 7. Orange legend flies but up to a hundred. (so you should be) Think religion rather than fruit and speed rather than weight. 8. Deranged, he'd fled. I went somewhere invitingly primitive. Be instructed and then tenuously describe the place.
