The word 'personality' should be removed from this event. The winners list is a who's who of some of the greatest dullards in history.
Mr Barton isn't impressed.... ''Can't believe they gave SPOTY to Hamilton. 1. Formula 1 is the most boring sport ever. 2. He brought a dog with him. 3. He's a tax exile.'' ''McIlroy, wins multiple golf Majors and Ryder Cup. Froch, boxing World champion. In fact every other nominee was more deserving the Hamilton.'' ''Tax exile's should be exempt from winning trophies paid and voted for by the tax/licence payer.'' ''He should never have won. He is a terrible role model to any Britain. What precedent does that set. Bad day in our history.'' I tend to agree with him. I reckon that even Driving Miss Daisy would be crowned F1 champ if you stuck him in that car.
Bang on the money. It's got sweet FA to do with their personality. It should be something more like BBC Sports person of the year in my opinion!
Yes, I suppose they need to find something for Lineker to do so he can earn his two million a year from the beeb...
It wasn't the best of programmes, could have been cut down by half hour at least and why was there some female singer on there, what was the purpose? The violinist was very good when going through the list of those who passed away during the year. Bit of a travesty that Hamilton won it, I'm sure he's a brilliant driver but the car is pretty much computer controlled these days and his car was so superior to the others that it was his team mate that provided his real opposition. McIlroy on the other hand has to do all the hard work himself to get to the very top of his sport and his achievements far outweigh those of Hamilton during the last 12 months. Good decision on the Best Team award......
I really wish teams could/would stop their players making moronic, or indeed any, social media announcements or comments.....particularly on Twitter. Surely Barton's frequent pseudo intellectual, yet almost exclusively cretinous observations, do nothing to ingratiate him with the fans.
What's all this fuss and fawning over Chris Hoy? Sir????? Don't get it.....so he can ride a bicycle quite quick!!!
I think Barton's observations are for the most part far from cretinous. I certainly agree with him on the tax exile issue
Why do we always have to find something to criticise in people who are the best at what they do? The public voted for him, blame them. He got nearly twice as many votes as McIlroy (who lives in Florida).
Thankfully only saw the last few minutes I turned on when they showed all the people that have died and a nice violinist which was nice … After that it looked like a comedy program IMO … Gary Linker sounded like Sean Dyche The very essential lesbian looked very essential and the other one proved again she has very little dress sense. How this thing has become a major event I know not … But I respect a lot of people like it. I agree with the ivory about the tax exiles
Well I'm biased towards Lewis being an F1 fan. I would also beg to differ on the view about putting anyone in his car. I bet most of us would die if we stepped into an F1 car and tried to race like any of them do week in, week out. EDIT: I would like to see all the drivers in the same car spec, this way we could really see who the best driver is!
Totally agree. I have great respect for self-made millionaires and billionaires that stay in the country that gave them their opportunities and pay taxes for the NHS, schools, public services to help others achieve. I have very little respect for those that take all the benefits of being British and give little back.
Elton John deserves a shout here, he did not up sticks like most of the pop stars and move to the USA.
Then you should watch Indycar or Nascar, where the cars are just about the same spec. F1 is more about engineering than drivers (though you are quite right it takes immense skill, fitness and reactions to drive these things) which is why there is a constructors championship.
Dead right. And JK Rowling must have contributed many, many millions for the benefit of this country. I could almost forgive her for being tight with Gordon Brown!
