Leeds are believed to be looking at their options for the January transfer window with the club hoping that their hands won't be completely tied by a transfer embargo.

The Yorkshire Post reports that Massimo Cellino had been preparing for the winter window for some time with the knowledge that The Whites will be hit with a ban after posting losses of around £23m last season, far beyond the Financial Fair Play limits.

While the side made a large number of purchases in the summer they are reportedly hoping that rules surrounding the FFP standards, which allow league clubs to sign players to maintain their squad size even during an embargo, will help them continue to seek talent as they aim to finish in a respectable position this season.

Leeds are currently 19th in the table and despite looking more positive under the guidance of Neil Redfearn – their third manager so far this season – they fell to two consecutive losses over the last week. Redfearn expressed his frustration over the weekend as Leeds lost 1-0 to Fulham and hinted that he would appreciate more signings to give more options when the side are failing to dominate.

"[They] lacked the conviction of previous games," he said. "There was too many off-days today. "We lacked that cutting edge, we looked reluctant to shoot. At the other end, they got in our box too easy.

"The squad needs help - sometimes off the bench. If you've got more options you can think about playing differently." Any transfer news for Leeds will be soured by the current situation surrounding Cellino, who is fighting his disqualification from owning a club in England under the 'fit and proper' rule.

But should the side be able to bring in players to maintain their squad size – with under-21 players and those who haven't made many appearances discounted from the squad under the rules – the local press believe that Leeds may be able to bolster their side, so long as they don't pay money for transfers and the wage package does not exceed £600,000 pro rata.

Zac Thompson also has 10 starts and his birthday just falls outside the cut-off so he counts towards the 24 too. So that's 20 players.

So by my reckoning, Leeds have 16 players who fall into the 24 quota. They would be Antenucci, Austin, Bellusci, Berardi, Bianchi...

Football League say players over 21 with fewer than five competitive starts for the club ever (not this season) are exempt from total of 24.

'Blackburn, Leeds and Forest all exceeded the maximum permitted deviation of £8m - consisting of a maximum adjusted operating loss of £3m plus a further maximum of £5m of shareholder investment - during the 2013/14 playing season.

Each club will have the opportunity to have its FFP embargo lifted at the end of the season by demonstrating that it has stayed within the maximum permitted deviation of £6m (£3m operating loss plus £3m shareholder investment) for the 2014/15 season.

Does this mean if our finances have not improved by the end of the season, we won't be able to spend in the Summer?

It means we have to make under a £6 million loss this season,up till April.Don't think this is any problem.

Don't think our current squad is the issue, the talent is there. If we actually paid the going rate for a proven top class coach we should just spend whatever money we're allowed on him and let him work with the players we already have. Those players out of contract in the summer will leave anyway, the squad will become more streamlined and the players wage bill will be trimmed naturally.
As for wingers, Montenegro can play out wide, as can Doukara. Or Byram could be shifted further forward with Berardi behind him.
Trouble is the current squad is lacking someone with any real leadership qualities, so maybe a quality coach could spot a potential captain among our current crop of shrinking violets and mould him into a leader. Maybe Cooper or Bellusci.

For the sake of balance, I would have picked Austin to sit in front of our frail defence, but he has picked up a hamstring injury.

I wonder if we will ever see him in a Leeds shirt again. Pretty convenient for him getting injured in the warm up. Can see him escaping to Brighton in January.

Our team is too flat. There were glaring gaps throughout the game on our right hand side. Absolutely no balance throughout the team.

The best individual eleven men won't make the best team!

I don't think Cook should be playing as much as he is. For someone so young, playing him every other game and keeping him keen I reckon could be better.

The youngons get pushed off the ball too easily. We need to give Dawson a run in the team as well to show Cook and Mowatt they don't have a guaranteed starting spot.
