Dropped "indefinitely" by Liverpool. Seems harsh, but apparently he's been pants, unlike Pants who has been on fine form.
Brilliant goal keeper We would have been relegated season-before-last had it not been for his heroics
Massively overrated. Unbelievably good shot stopper but his kicking, communication and movement off the line are championship standard. Lot's of potential but nowhere near top class.
Impressive. Just shows what competition for places from two top keepers does. Shame we don't have two top forwards
lets not forget Mannone -our player of the year last season and just probably like Mignolet has just had a temporary dip in form - both keepers are too good to be kept sidelined for too long
This Mannone had a bad run, but not as bad as JA who's had plenty of chances.. I hope Vito comes back firing! I've always admired his connection with the fans!
Have to say Brad Jones is ****e mind - if you're dropped for him you need to re-assess your position in football. Mig was excellent for us couple of seasons ago. I said we were right to sell for that money when Liverpool came knocking and it turns out I was right as we have Vito (excellent keeper) and Pantillimon - who, IMO is the best of all three. He commands his box better than the others and claims crosses better than most keepers I've seen in my lifetime at SAFC.
Mignolet is a flash in the pan, shot stopper. His distribution and his anticipation are pathetic at this level and he fits right into Brendan Rodger's transfer philosophy, of 'let's take a risk on somebody who's had a decent year'. When David De Gea settles with a permanent back line, with more experience and he learns their system and starts to come for passes better, he'll be the best goalkeeper in the world, until then, he's just the best in this league. His distribution was immense yesterday, something that went largely unnoticed due to his shot stopping heroics.
Not by me Terry - I was talking to my Dad about it after the game and saying just how good he is all around. My Dad seems to have developed a chip due to Michael Carrick asking for one of our players to be booked and the ref obliging last year and also due to Moyes! He hasn;t moved on but I have and look more objectively than him! De Gea is class - IMO one of the top 2 in the world and comfortably the best in this league (I love Pantillimon BTW but he's nowhere near De Gea's level) I said when he first played for you lot that he would become a very good keeper - He made a few mistakes (thanks for the one in the cup David!) but you could just see (I could anyhow) that he was going to be a very good keeper. Turns out I was right again (someone tell the wife please!)
Mate, he's not put a foot wrong all season. It will happen, inevitably but he's improving with every game, he's a real fans favourite now. Friend of mine rates Pantilimon highly as well, said he's second to none for a keeper you'd want on corners and set pieces. His only flaw to his game is that his reflexes are a bit slower than you'd like, he highlighted this by pointing out that City would hit hard shots at him vs you lot a few weeks ago and low and behold Aguero nearly broke the net. I actually think your other keeper is the better of the two, but once the confidence is gone it's a difficult one to turn around, when you have two decent stoppers. Carrick's a don by the way, he's been our best player and it's no coincidence he's brought the winning mentality back into the side on his return. Tell your old boy to pipe down! There was no consistency yesterday with the bookings we were livid, you rarely catch English players waving the imaginary yellow card unless there's been a precursor.
The rest might do him good. For its his command of his area, highlighted at corners and freekicks that let the Migs game down. More so than distribution. Take into account that Liverpool mostly build from the back any keeper would do the same in rolling out to one of the defenders. Besides, distribution is probably the last thing I'm concerned about in a keeper. Thats not to say Mig is at the 'standard a Liverpool keeper shoud be'.
There were people comparing him with Courtois saying he was gonna take his spot for the national team. There were comments on here saying he was gonna be off to Barca or Real Madrid. I got slated for mentioning De Gea in the same sentence as Mignolet, saying I could see the potential. Rodgers has ruined the confidence of a keeper who needs confidence or he becomes redundant. He's WAY out of his depth at that level, De Gea was thrown into a cauldron of fire every match, he manned up and took them all on the chin and he came out on top, Mignolet has buckled at the first sign of judgement. You lot have had Liverpool's pants down again, without question.
Yeah, and he was in great form, probably because the pressures were smaller. Liverpool fans wanted the league title back end of last season, they wanted it this season, they demanded improvement despite losing their best player. The goalkeeper is just a scapegoat, as Reg suggests because they don't want to all hammer the bloke they proclaimed as their messiah last season, that daft blobfish of a manager. He's probably desperate to get away from that club, Rodgers has over £100m worth (or at least that's what they've paid) of players he can call on for defence and goalkeeping, that tells you everything you need to know.
