A true legend who has dragged us to many a triumph. At this moment with Rodgers help he's destroying his reputation one game at a time. I actually think he'd be good off the bench for us but it seems that no matter how badly he plays he still starts. Is there anyone left who still thinks he should start for us?
i do sort of, i think he should give his all for 60 mins a game then be replaced, or better still come on for the last 30 mins in a game attacking wise! as neither of those will happen sadly as he plays all the time and full 90 min matches!! ffs!!!! i suppose i would rather see him for 30 mins a game.
i dunno... he was pretty anonymous yesterday. Joe allen was god awful too mind. I agree on gerrard's rep. he should have retired form football last summer and gone out on some sort of high... slip and all. another year like this and his "legacy" or whatever reputation as you say will be tarnished. Bob Paisley always boiled football down to the simplest things... "let them age on someone else's pitch" he was dead right and thats the mistake Shankley made in the 60s and learned from and paisley complete rebuilt his side to get the 1981 teams etc.... sentiment has NO PLACE in football. Gerrard shoud not merit a starting place. its rodgers fault he signed one CM this summer and that kid can't get a game no matter how bad we are!
He's actually playing the same as last season - difference is there are no decent set pieces and penalties this time round, and now everyone can see that offers very little in open play. - Offers zero protection to the defence. - Players like Allen and Henderson have do all of his work thus reducing their effectiveness - Concedes possession far too frequently. The only way to play is for the last 10 mins or so when we're throwing the kitchen sink at the defence. Other than that, he has no worth to the team.
He's a complete passenger in that central midfield role. I had to keep scanning the pitch to see where he was yesterday, he was that anonymous. If you're playing a side who want to park the bus and sit in deep then he can be of some use as he'll get the ball in advanced positions, but against anyone who's capable of giving you a game, he just shouldn't be starting, simple as that. He's becoming a mill stone for you.
yeah but you were obsessed. gerrard is muck.. johnson is muck.. allen is muck... millstone is a good word!
I didn't realise he was playing yesterday, until he got booked for trying to haul down RVP. He couldn't even foul properly - ref just let us have the advantage and booked him after the attack was over! Even Scholes could still foul properly after his legs went
His problem is he's just not a good holding midfielder. I've no idea why Lucas was f**ing dropped yesterday. We have lost only 1 of the 11 games Lucas has played in this season, that says it all.
Allen was dross but at least he tried to get involved and worked hard for the cause. The same cannot be said about Gerrard. As Swarbs, I didn't realise he was even playing. Did nothing of note apart from one long ball to Moreno (quality ball!). He hinders the team so much.
Says it all about Brendans game plan though. Continually plays players in the wrong position when the solution may be in front of him. I think he is now such a rabbit in the head lights that he is scared to try anything else. ..oh with the exception of the bright move of dropping indefinitely your keeper and replacing him with one so poor even a championship team would reject him. I bet the indefinite period lasts just two weeks after Jones has conceeded in each game.
He should start 1 in 3. BR plays him every game though as he is desperate for someone to save his ass.
I don't know why Rodgers won't play Can, other than because of his obsession with playing Gerrard for the full 90 every game. Can should be starting, we see how it goes, if he needs to come off bring Gerrard on with the bonus that he'll be fresh and coming onto a pitch full of tired legs so won't be constantly behind the game.
