I can't remember how it happened, but I somehow came into possession of a red blazer that had probably been discarded by a Butlins worker or somesuch and as an act of adolescent rebellion I wore it to school one day. It failed to impress either my form teacher or headmaster. I was sent home to change and got a week's detention to boot, but it seemed a small sacrifice to pay for sticking two fingers up at the Millwall kids at school. For a long time after that I was nicknamed Red. I joined this site primarily to contribute to the Charlton Athletic board so it seemed an appropriate screen name to adopt.
