Darrell Clarke apologises for "awful" and "inept" performance after Bristol Rovers humbled by Bath City Bristol Rovers boss Darrell Clarke said he and his players deserved the abuse they received at the final whistle after they were dumped out of the FA Trophy by Bath City this at the Memorial Stadium this afternoon. Ex-Bristol City midfielder Frankie Artus bagged a second-half brace to spring a surprise and end Roversâ involvement in a competition they were among the favourites to win. The result was met by jeers, boos and chants of âwhat a load of rubbishâ by angry supporters at the final whistle and Clarke said: âI have absolutely no complaints with the outcome at all. âThe better side won on the day and I can only describe our performance as awful and inept. The supporters showed their frustration at the end and we deserved everything we got as we were coming off the pitch. âWe just never got ourselves going. We had a few half-chances, but we never played with any tempo and we struggled to break Bath down. It never helps you when you give away cheap goals and we were guilty of conceding due to some poor individual errors. âI donât want to take anything away from Bath because they played well on the day, but we were very, very poor. I am very, very frustrated and disappointed as are the players.â He added: âI know there is a lot of history between the two clubs and losing this game will hurt our supporters. For that I apologise, but it is about bouncing back. âWe are going strong in the league and we need to get us over this disappointment quickly and make sure that we are ready to go again when we play Gateshead in the league on Friday night. âIt is always an absolute disaster when Bristol Rovers in the non-league lose a football match and I have to be very careful how I manage things. There is no point in me going in the changing room and throwing tea cups around.â http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Darrel...-performance/story-25706382-detail/story.html
In reality they lost a cup tie to a team one league below them. I agree with what Clarke says in that every defeat seems bad because their club is used to being a league team - therefore any defeat seems worse than normal. I think they have done ok this season, and should be in the play-offs at the end of it.
Rovers are doing dam well in a difficult league & Clarke in particular is doing a fine job for the gas, yesterday's defeat was no different than City going out at home to Oxford United in the league cup.
Nonsense, if I was going to be critical I would have made a comment, your very response just proves the value and balance of our members comments..
I find it funny that every time the sags take the piss out of us for something, it ends up happening to them but even worse. They took the piss out of us when we were in the championship saying we would go down.... We survived and then they ended up going down Then when we were in L1 we took s**t from them about being bottom at Christmas and had stats saying we're likely to be relegated.... 5 months later they were relegated OUT OF THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE! NON LEAGUERS! Laughed that it took us 90 minutes to score against and beat Telford in the FA CUP, then the following week they lose to Bath a team a league below them AT HOME in the FA TROPHY!... Then theirs the best one. Mocked us about our stadium and it's delays saying we'll never get a new ground then laughed even more when there's got approved to be built.... a few months later our stadium is being built whilst there's looks ever so unlikely The gift that keeps on giving! So please horse punchers! Tell us we won't get promoted and you will! because we know what will happen

I am surprised at their league position. They could be promoted at end of season. Cup defeat to Bath? Banana skin match and they slipped up. Clarke comes across on interviews as a straight talking guy. Much better than Ward's utter bullshit.
Deep down, it probably wont do them any harm- We lost to Oxford. Bit embarrassing at the time, but move on-

****ing hilarious, not only do they give us a gift of being dog ****e every week but they also film it for our pleasure.
I was standing just a few feet to the left of this bloke. His rantings annoyed all those around him. We agreed with his observations but nobody else was attracting attention to themselves as he was. In fact the knowing looks all around showed that most thought he was a right t***. However the pictures don't lie......we were awful.
Imagine if that pair of twats were sat next to you at a game. absolutely clueless.. but comedy gold.!
