Not just a son will be returning home Tomorrow when Terriers meet, But one of the best to grace the Delia Dome Both with his head and in his feet I´ve lost track of how many vital goals He scored in the years he was here, Or how much we thanked him for saving our souls When we thought that despair was near Often big characters have to leave first Before their worth is really felt, Not so Grant Holt who played with such a thirst He made the most hardened critics melt But as a leader it was where he scored Amongst fans and players as well, No cause was ever lost, and the reward When it came, made all our hearts swell He´s almost certain to score Saturday Which I for one wouldn´t begrudge, That would be typical, and just his way As would the occasional nudge I´m pleased he can finally say goodbye And get the applause and the cheers, So treat him well, the big-hearted guy As he treated us all for years. OTBC
Nice one RBF, he will get rapturous applause when he takes the field and there's bound to be a chorus of "We ****ing love Grant Holt!"
Well said RBF, I'd be sorely disappointed if he were not given a rapturous round of applause both on entering the field of play and on leaving it! As far as NCFC legends go, very few get close to him in my humble opinion!
as far as real life super hero's go, he will always be to our club as close as they get, the talisman, the grafter, a true gent, cant see him ever being truly replaced. A one off.
Hi skald bor, yes the return of the Prodigal son. Having followed City for decades, I can honestly say he is the one who epitomises the perfect footballer to wear the green and yellow. Words cannot portray the effect he had in being instrumental in seeing us rise up the leagues, a standing we have lost since his departure. Hope he has the same success with his passion for dog racing. Muttley ok ?
I think we can safely say that we missed him once he left, NORKIE, just as much for the character he was, as for his prowess with the ball, his sort don´t come around very often. Muttley looking forward to Christmas, as am I, too.
Never to be forgotten
More than just a player for Norwich. He was the loveable bastard, the focal point, the captain who wore his heart on his sleeve. He scored the goals, lifted the players when things seemed to be going against us and did it all with a smile on his face. I personally think selling him is what lead to our demise. We no longer had our talisman, No one to grind and graft and lift the crowd. I hope he comes back here for what ever reason some day, because he is the biggest legend I have had the fortune to see at this club.
He got a tremendous ovation at the start of the game and an even bigger one at the end - I was genuinely moved so Heaven knows how Holty felt. Plenty of chants of "We effing love Grant Holt" too. Great day.
Met him tonight, all suited and booted with three other legends. He certainly doesn't look like the overweight footballer he's made out to be! Looked incredibly slim and a nice bloke.
Great to hear. Players like this don't come around too often. I may go back some way, but can't remember too many who had more impact on the club. Thanks for the memories, glad we treated you well.
I also met that 'other' chap who had a big impact on the club, Mr Darren Huckerby. They were out with the other popular duo of Gary Holt and Adam Drury. It would seem my wife was rather taken with the modest Grant Holt who implied the other three were legends and not himself. What a memory! Oh yes, I almost forgot to say his reception was rightly brilliantly received.
I have to agree with all of the above. Whilst GH wasn't single handedly responsible for our rise from the depths of league 1 to the PL, I wonder which league we'd be in now (or if we'd even exist) had we not signed him - probably Bryan Gunn's best move. His inspiration to others on the pitch was immense and who can forget his wonder goal against Everton in our first year in the PL. He nearly laid on a goal for Huddersfield in the first couple of minutes of yesterday's game, but after that, Cuellar seemed to 'have him in his pocket'
Amid all the post match 'clamour' to select a MOTM, (including canary call, which I foolishly listened to after the game ) names including Redmond, Johnson, and Hooper were being mentioned. But no body suggested Cuellar, who kept the dangerous - as we know only too well, Grant Holt under wraps so effectively. A few more performances from him like his last two and he'll be first choice in a settled back four - something we're still crying out for He tweeted this post-match, it's clear it means a lot to him:
What I love about City's players is that they seem to be really down to Earth when you speak to them. Whenever I've met any, they never seem to appear 'bigger than the club' unlike some international class players. The four I met last night happily posed for a fantastic photograph and were quite happy to have a little chat. Fantastic servants of the club.
I thought Cuellar was excellent - his positional sense and reading of the game looked spot on and he didn't put a foot wrong in my opinion. He seemed confident in possession and not content to just lump it upfield. He and Ryan Bennett would be my first choice pairing at centre back.
