I'd like to see this team: -----------------------Mignolet Manquillo-------Skrtel--------Toure--------Moreno -------------------------Lucas------------------------ -----------Henderson----------Coutinho------------- ------------------------Lallana------------------------ --Markovic---------------------------------Sterling-- Gerrard, Borini and Lambert on the bench for attacking impact if our lack of strikers cant grab a goal. I think the best thing in this game is to be solid and stubborn and then hit them with pace on the break. Grind out a result.
If you're lot are up for it today I can see you getting a result as they used up all their luck on Monday.
The players are probably more up for it today. As for match day tomorrow, they will be their usual useless selves.
True about our luck, but we haven't used up all our quality. Why just Liverpool? Tomorrow we'll be up for it as much as them and you'll see a different game from us to Monday.
Can Liverpool fans please post a team they'd like to see that includes Gerrard? We all know Gerrard is a given so why not put the best he can do with Gerrard there. That way I can then get an idea how far off a decent side he actually puts out...
I disagree that he's a given. I really will not be surprised if he is on the bench. He's been benched a few times in recent weeks and has also never started a match twice in a week where he has been used as an AM.
Mignolet Johnson, Skrtel, Sakho, Moreno Gerrard Coutinho Can Markovic Balotelli Sterling Is what I'd go with (but I've put Johnson in because he will 100% start)
@Livtor, seeing as you are browsing the thread what team would you go with? Genuinely interested to hear how you'd use Gerrard and how you'd fit the rest of our attacking players into the team.
There's various formations I could go with. Ideally, they involve Gerrard at AM, Coutinho at CM ala Fabregas/Modric, and Balotelli upfront (the big occasion might spark him up) e.g. -------Lucas------------- -----------Coutinho----- Sterling---Gerrard---Lallana -----------Balotelli------- But also, esp if Coutinho's not working or gets tired: --------Lucas--------- ----------Gerrard------ Sterling----------Marko ------Balo ----Lallana--
Hustle should come from any one we field on the pitch. I'm not gonna put Hendo on the pitch just because of his hustle. Besides the goals, we've been especially lacking game intelligence and creativity with SAS out of the picture.
Not convinced by the Coutinho in central midfield to be honest, he's got the tools but does he have the defensive discipline to track runners and the restraint to not try and beat men as often when he's got the ball deep as it is simply too risky in that area of the pitch. Its an interesting suggestion though and I'd guess before January is as good a time as any to try new things and see what might work/what doesn't.
I'd like to see --------------------Mig Manquillo--Lovren--Toure--Moreno ------------------Lucas --------Hendo----Can-----Allen ----------------Coutinho ----------------Sterling Balo in for someone if fit.
-------------------Jones Manquillo---Toure---Sahko---Moreno -------------------Can --------Henderson---Coutinho Markovic--------Balotelli-------Sterling Not happy about having Balotelli in there, but no got much choice.
I think it's pretty obvious that Gerrard, Johnson and Balotelli (if fit, if not Lambert) will play. Migs Manquillo Skrtel Toure Johnson Henderson Lucas Lallana Gerrard Sterling Balotelli Something like that will be likely. Manquillo to start because he's not done so for a while and Rodgers likes to switch between him and Moreno, Johnson therefore LB since he has to start. Henderson and Lucas will sit deep and try to strengthen our midfield, Can would be better next to Lucas, but he's massively out of favour and lacking practice in big games. Lallana or Coutinho, flip a coin. That's what Rodgers does. Gerrard nailed to start. Sterling has to play, no one else can worry another team. Balotelli or Lambert. The former will get preference if fit. Standard team really, I'm not expecting much difference from this.
