I wonder if he would have played better for us than he has done for Liverpool or would he have been found out here also. He certainly got protection from midfield here. However, we did well out of it by getting Toby (just wish he was ours). It's an interesting point that they think he couldn't take the step up. If you ignore the European games, Liverpool play the same teams as we do....so why exactly is it harder to play in a side which should on paper be better than us. Surely it should be easier to play with 'better' team mates.

Have to admit I'm surprised he struggled this badly. Liverpool has problems that go beyond him, and I could have seen him scuffle a bit to get used to a new role and system. But he's just flat-out stunk up the joint.

I am surprised he has struggled as he did look good at SMS last season but guess his partnership with Fonte was key to his success so that when partnered with someone of lesser ability like Skirtl his issues have been highlighted.
He had a similar reputation with Lyon (I think...some French club we bought him from) so it looks like he has reverted to type
Just shows how good Fonte is

On a personal level, I am delighted he has fallen on his face for his behaviour in engineering his move to Scousehampton. Expect he will be crying into his hugely inflated bank balance

He complained at first that he wasn't used to leadership, now he's not protected by midfield.

They're having a terrible season and blaming the new guy. He isn't protected by the midfield. They're carrying an aged Gerrard, and Joe Allen/Jorden Henderson don't offer the same defensive qualities on their own as someone like Wanyama.

I often find that I'm quite unimpressed by players who are competent in a team of great players, simply because if you can't do well in a team where every other player is covering for you then you must be pretty damn crap.

Truth is, Lovren plays in one of the most important positions and without extremely good players around him, he is exposed as the ex-Lyon CB, lacking in confidence and prone to error.

Such an appalling attitude to have. Maybe he is the weak link, but bitching about it and making him feel like crap is going to help how exactly? For goodness-sake, you play for the same team, you should be supporting and helping each other, not digging the the knife in. Typical of egotistical overpaid primadonas, let's remember this the next time Skrtl or Johnson make a mistake.

he might be under protected, but that doesn't explain his running around like a headless chicken when he was billed as a leader.

he started getting a bit like that second half of last season.

perhaps that is his try-hard mode.

Not saying he doesn't, just still think it's a such a really bad attitude to take.
