This is so true. Bloody microcelebs outstaying their welcome after the proverbial 15 minutes of fame are all over the place nowadays.
Which in particular? Christianity preaches to be forgiving towards violence and pray for people who persecute you. I'd rather stick them in a Kimura and snap their ****ing arm in half if it's all the same with Christians thanks. The rest of these values are basic human defaults. People aren't born wrong and taught the right way to live. People are inherently born innocent and adopt negative traits through tuition. Christianity shouldn't be given any credit for what is essentially human evolution.
And the children of utterly talentless celebrities now become celebrities and earn more money than any of us could ever hope for because of their name. Our society most definitely worships the fame club. Awful.
Yes, I see that it is technically legal but in effect it hardly ever happens. Last year an estimated 70 took place in NI, but over 1100 travelled to Britain to have theirs done. Doctors nurses and midwives can refuse to carry out the procedure for reasons of conscience and the few clinics who are suspected of carrying out this procedure are picketed and women entering are often asked the reason for their visit. So not illegal as you say but pretty tricky.
Rust Cohle from True Detective sums it up IMO: "If the only thing keeping a person decent is the expectation of divine reward then, brother, that person is a piece of sh*t."
Just decency towards common man fella. I'm not talking about Jesus in Palestine and the centuries war and blood shed it's brought to the area since the gospels were penned. I'm talking about the good Christians of England's past. Like it or not mate, that evolution you're on about in this country has been represented through Christianity, Christianity was the vessel for that evolutionary journey if you will, it's been the back bone of our moral development for centuries. These days it's tough to comprehend just how religious this country used to be due to the staggering decline of Christianity. Religion is bulls**t no doubt and there will always evil f**ers but good Christians tend to be very decent people who are an absolute credit to society and there's not enough of it these days. My point is we don't need religion to be good people. The decency Christianity brought this country can still exist without Christianity itself. But it's those values what once made Britain Great. But it doesn't stand a chance against media, consumer targeting companies, Muslim intrusion and the gaping gaps between the classes.
We're essentially giving two slants on the same point, I argued earlier that it's insane to think the human race needs religion in order to behave itself. I disagree about Christianity nurturing society though, in that it's preachings has helped develop the nation, human intelligence and common sense has always instinctively and subconsciously guided the human race for millions of years, to relinquish that in the past few thousand years and start giving the credit to some idealogical scribblings defined as guidelines isn't gonna wash with me. There are values that I'd like to see in society, as you say, that are important, and yeah the Christians did preach these values but they didn't invent them.
of course they didn't decency, will have predated all religion. But once up time in Britain virtually everyone was a Christian and with it in most part a level of decency. I just wanted point out that the decline of both seem to run adjacent with each other. No smoke without fire for me, Christianity is nearly dead, people get their values from elsewhere and look at state of it. It's our herd nature and where people are getting these values today which is the problem imo. World ran by the fat cats while the public confirm and follow like sheep, just like they once did when introduced to religion, all to fill the pockets of the leader of the board as they lead us down a path which is destroying our world. All the while sharia law is waiting in the wings to sweep the debris and take over. It's an almighty mess.
I big it up on here all the time mate. Unbelievable. That time is a flat circle thing goes right over my head mind.
50,000 female, ageing and mabeez a bit cranky or warty old women who were burned, drowned, hung and sometimes tortured as well. As witches by a Christian authority. No one would dare to speak out against such a practice for fear of being a 'sympathiser' in a time when everyone was a Christian across Europe. 'the intellectual descent that the Theists have made in their argumentations ... has been and still is the principal enemy of moral progress in the world' - Bertrand Russell
and less than a 100 years ago black people kept as slaves in the US. As recent as yesterdays news Soldiers past interrogation techniques have been called into question. All you displayed there is that mentalities change. It's not something exclusive to religion. What's right today could be wrong tomorrow.
Same here mate, I seem to remember he was fairly canned up when he came out with that one though so we'll let him off for that!
In the case of Cat Stephens/Jussef Islam or whoever, their is the mixture of religion, fame and wealth all rolled into one.
As scientific knowledge has developed, the natural progression should really result in pie in the sky religions based on nothing but blind faith to fade out. However, religions use any means possible to keep their power and influence with brainwashing and violence still high on the religious agenda..
Got it in one. The western world has been inventive and innovative whilst Islam has stayed traditional, but received benefits from progress. The events over the last century have given all areas the opportunity to move forward but Islam remains rooted in their 6th century traditions. Even today anyone challenging the Islamic teachings are automatically condemned to death, something the Christians gave up on around the 17th century.
The persecution and execution of innocent people accused of witchcraft or devil worship was driven by religion. The principle was based on a notion that if there is a God and heaven, then logically the was an opposite figure head and place. This was at a time when everyone held Christian beliefs. Not sure what 'All you displayed there is that mentalities change' - erm, religious societies were barbaric l
To answer the post, unequivocally...."yes". Sad. Thinks.....how come the fall in church attendances (the lacking of such, whatever, spiritual belief) has led to a vacuum of basic human decency? No spiritual guidance, methinks. (Yeh....it can be a curse s/times - if one is brain-washed)). But saint-hood ain't for the most of us. > Don't count me too biased, guys...."but I believe in the Faith that can save me; I believe in the Love that You gave me.....". (That from Bruce Springsteens 'Badlands'.) Each to their own. Bless you all.
