Thought you good folk might like to see some very threatening images of what many of us Aussies are forced to endure, daily.
I personally dislike our summer season simply because of the violent nature of our storms. Yes, I'm probably living in the wrong state but Sydney and Melbourne suffer some serious storm activity, too.

Each year, it's like playing 'Russian roulette' as to whether our cars are going to be hit or not. Today, my car survived ............ others did not.
These images are from Brisbane and Gold Coast this afternoon. I'm sure 'Queens' and the gang here in South East Queensland can show some as well.
    Cheers,
    Aussie

I can't recall hearing if anyone has been killed from it before but probably not unlike a cricket ball hitting you at pace .......... and we all know what that can do.
Last weeks storm is costed out out 800 million and rising. They are almost daily at present.

Yep, certainly been hard hit here to. worst storm in 49 years apparently.

I live in Central Brissie and there are a lot of the old "Queenslander" houses still around. They have the older thinner glass and we have entire streets where the windows have been put through.
Also on my way to work i drive past a load of car dealerships. Funny to not that the Nissan dealer is right next to the Hyundai dealer. Evryone of the nissans windsceens was smashed in the storm whilst the Hyundai didnt lose a single one
We had a 3metre x 2.5 metre want ripped off the roof of our bussiness and thrown over 2oometres acrooss into a nearby field. Would have seriously hurt someone if it hat hit them.
Storms havent been to bad of lae but even in Aussies pics, that beach at Surfers still looks good !!

Oh well, what can you do...<laugh>

great photos. We're having some weather here too, up north anyway. Snow in Staffordshire. Or perhaps just dandruff.

Surfers cracks me up. Did no one think that building high rises right behind an east facing beach would mean it doesn't get any sun in the afternoon? Nearly drowned there trying to body surf almost 30 years ago. My Aussie cousin forced me to try it. He was so fat the waves got out of his way.

The good thing to come out of the Surfers fiasco is that now they dont allow building over3-4 stories anywhere alongs the east coast without some very substantial justification..(or a bigger back hander)!
Nice beach but its inhe shade by 3pm, but if you go 10 mins south to Burleigh and Mermaid beach, the sunshine is endless.

Surfers is for tourists mainly and "us locals" dont go there

I saw some pics of the weather back home..looks cold and wet...normal then <ok>

My Aussie relatives were Sydney dwellers, had a flat in one of those high rises. They insisted on flying me up there (I was travelling on a tight budget at the time and they were loaded, my younger brother went and worked for them a few years later) and wining and dining me. Very generous, but not really my thing and I'd already been to North Queensland and all the way up the Western Australia coast, seen a few beaches by then. I did win a few hundred dollars on a tiny stake in one of the casinos though.

Up in Scotland, especially the islands, its been really rough mate.

You're right Aussie about playing Russian roulette , and me and and the wife play it very badly !! The missus works at the Mater in Brissy and parked her car on the top floor of the multi storey when there was a hail storm last week or so . $8000 worth of damage ( back windscreen smashed and every panel damaged ) and the car is only 5 months old . We're insured for the car to be replaced but because so many cars were affected ( 33000 they reckon ) they've decided the car can be repaired as would have cost them a small fortune to replace so many cars . Been assured the car will be repaired to its brand new original state , apparently the repairers that the insurance use travel all over the world to countries that suffer huge hail storms and so therefore are experts in this type of thing . The hail was golf ball size which the wife found on the back seat when she got to the car , ther were other cars that were worse she said with some cars having all their windows smashed .
Last year I got caught in a hail storm on my way home from work near Coomera but that time the car was written off as not so many cars were affected plus the car was 4 yrs old .
So if you see a daft pommie with a tin hat on , give me a wave !!!!!!

Mate, I really fill you you and the good lady. I had a five week old brand new VZ Commodore Lumina all but totalled by hail in 2005. It had a new bonnet, roof and boot installed and the side panels on both sides were 'paintless dent removal' .............. did a very good job they did.
Last year, my prized ute got creamed around November ............... every single panel was hit. Again, 'paintless dent removal' did the job so there were no resprays at all.
The only problem is having to pay the excess and the increased premiums.

The main reason l'm replying to your post ( your wife works at the Mater Hospital ) ..... is to acknowledge the brilliant work that those wonderful Nurses and Doctors do there.
Last February, they 'saved' me. They are champion people.
    Good luck with your car.

It would have been last year but I have family in Melbourne who's car was written off after a hail storm. Went to the cinema and when she came out the car had taken a kicking.

Truly 'God's own country'. It clearly likes to practice biblical events of vengeance, punishment and retribution there. And gives you spiders and snakes to keep you on your toes. I was in Sydney during the floods of 2012 (was it?) following the decades of drought.

Still a great, great place though, if I could find a job which would pay me enough to get a house in Sydney, I'd be there in a shot.

Thanks Aussie and Queenslander for your kind words for the wife I'll pass the message on . She has been known to save a mother/child's life but mostly she brings new life into the world as she is a mad.........midwife, but yes it's a great hospital . Same with our car Aussie , PDR is being done on the car on the side panels and I've heard it does the job perfectly .
