I haven't bothered with the second half, but what was annoying me in the first was slow buildup, a lack of coherent pressing and closing down (Stambouli and Soldado were left shouting at team mates on more than one occasion as then closed down a player, only for nobody else to join in so an easy out ball was there) and just general sloppiness. I was heartened by Walker, who did a better job of providing width down that flank from the RB position than anyone has all season. He looked a little rusty but thats understandable. I doubt we'll see him this weekend but maybe in the cup next week and then in the league if he continues to recover and perform. What was the second half like?
I can't believe that they had the cheek to make a substitution after play had restarted. It'll be interesting to see what UEFA's reaction is. Farcical stuff. Not an awful performance, but a really crappy way to lose. We desperately need someone sharp up front right now, but our defending is absolutely awful at times. Nice to see Walker and various others back. Glad that we rested players. Rubbish result.
My first early thoughts.....someone got a lawnmower?.....and then....someone got a shilling for the meter? Oh well. 10 more changes for the next game should get us going again (he says with tongue in cheek!) I would like to ask if our players were ever introduced to each other.....and then told that goals win games......and does our manager know what our squad can do and not do....what on earth is happening to and at Tottenham Hotspur?
I like the look of Stambouli. Could see him slot in as a replacement for Mason to give him a rest - assured on the ball and seems to pick his passes well. Overall it'll be a bit of a shame if we don't qualify for the Europa next year but I think a possible bonus might be that the fewer matches will prevent the "need" for such a big squad with so many high-profile players struggling to get games and there being a lack of cohesion partly as a result of this. I think it might give a good excuse to balance the squad better and not just have CMs and inverted wingers everywhere. A fair few of the players we saw tonight simply aren't needed if we're not in the Europa. And I'd rather cut back some of the weeds and allow a bit more room for those left to get more understanding and game time together. And for me I'd like Stambouli to stay over most of our recent midfield purchases going by what I've seen so far.
I agree with Lenny, Stambouli looks like he has something that we're missing. As for the rest of it, usual bollocks. Fall asleep at the back - strikers who can't buy a goal...
You sound as though your disappointed he did that. I wasn't even surprised its what he always does, such a poor player, never mind he didn't cost us that much, sure we'll get it back when we sell him in January (fingers crossed)
Spurs are so boring to watch , more torturous with so little pleasure . As many feel so emotionally distant from the club the result is just another shrug of the shoulders . With no contrived silly pitch invasions to look forward to we were blessed with "carry on Constantinople " . " Put those lights out " was a nice touch.
The Mail also seem to agree that the comment was newsworthy: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...tml?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490 The word "bizarre" is the exact word that they use under the picture of Les. Good grief - I'd say being a journalist is easy but I would actually be amazed if a real journalist wrote this and not some unpaid intern. I assume it's recent graduates who work for free who come up with all this kind of bumf. You don't find a great deal of journalists working for papers nowadays - and it shows.
I don't even know where to begin with what is wrong with that motivational technique from Les. I sincerely hope none of the rest of the squad heard them saying that. Of course, they all have now. Thanks a lot you one-footed twat.
Not very nice but evidence would suggest he is right. We do have a special relationship and the club has a policy to sell its best, no matter what bull they tell us . A wake up call even if it has come out of bitterness.
First half was good, another half like that and it would've been one of our best away performances in Europe for a long time. Second half was awful though. Great to have Walker back though.
