The church opposite the KC(St. Matthew's) is currently for sale(Anlaby Road/Boulevard corner)... please log in to view this image Apparently it's a bit shagged inside, particularly the spire(which is crumbling away from the inside), it does still have some very nice features, but it got me wondering what could actually be done to save it. It would make a nice house, but it's location doesn't lend itself to an expensive refurb and it has no land with it. It's too small for flats and again with the location and state of the building it's unlikely to be financially viable and it's a church sale, so covenants will prevent it being used for a licensed premises. It's likely to be fairly cheap due to all of these things, but what could the building possibly be used for, it would seem a shame if it's just left to rot?
The nearby mosque's at capacity. The one further up Anlaby Rd's been up for quite a while with seemingly no interest, so that should keep the price down. Generally some hoops to jump through with Church work.
There's one in Nottingham that's been converted in to a restaurant that I've been in and they'd made a really good job of it. Never posted a link before on here so may not work but presumably anyone wanting to check it out can do from that. http://www.pitcherandpiano.com/where-are-we/nottingham
Not all churches are sold with covenants on them, but this one does have them, which is really what got me thinking about what the hell else you could do with it. My house has the same sort of covenants.
I bet there's a few on here who wouldn't mind buying it to cast hell-fire on the satanic Beelzebruce.
I've just noticed on the sales details, it's being offered for sale as a 'Residential Development', but I can't see that being very viable. They just reduced the St Georges pub from £250k to £180k and it's twice the size, has a big garden and nowhere near the conversion costs of a church.
Keep it as church.......for all our doom mongers who threaten relegation constantly, provide them with a safe haven where they can bitch about the teams performance to each other (and the fella upstairs) rather than clog up this forum with their negativity.
Mission in Hull was once some sort of religious building I believe, there's allsorts of sinning going on in there, Jesus would bust a testicle. It could be made into a cafe, like the one in York City Centre (I forget the name), I think it's run by the Samaritans.
Is that all? Do you have to keep somewhere like that as a pub or could you just buy it and live in it?
Up in Scotland near Braemar there is a church converted into a hotel, they put in a mezzanine floor and it turned out to be really classy, but it is in a slightly better setting that this one.
Aside from the covenants, nobody not on drugs would convert St Matthews into a licensed premises and expect it to be anything other than an abject ****hole within six months. It's not in the right place. It's a lovely church, I went to a christening there a while back, though I remember my mate (who used to go there to do God stuff) telling me it was basically ****ed years ago. In fact I'm sure it had netting suspended from the ceiling in case of falling masonry and so on (I'm not making that up). Come to think of it that was maybe four years ago, so I can only assume it's now worse. I guess the cost of fixing it would be... a lot.
Perth Street Methodist Church is in the process of being converted into flats (just sold after being on the market for yonks), on a similar note.
