    Hi all,

Been watching these boards over the last few weeks. I'm pleased to say we seem to have some really switched on followers unfortunatley we also seem to have some who are not. I suppose this article is aimed at those who :-

    A. Think signing the likes of Adebola and co is a disgrace to the club. There all signed for a reason, financial or football.
    B. Think we should be spending stupid money when it seems terribly clear we can not.
    C. Dont have unrealistic targets, resarch your thoughts on who you want the club to sign, instead of plucking names out here and there "i seem to remeber an article about kiearn westwood been posted a couple of hours AFTER he signed for Sunderland.
    and last but not least,
    D. No matter how amazing you think the likes of Bullard, Ghilas, Oli etc are, they are not going to play under Nigel Pearson. He wants his own players who play with a certain mentality. Nothing wrong with that. Deal with it!! i know people who work at the club and they have said when ash and bullard left the club last season the atmosphere of the place instantly improved.

I know im going to get battered now and called most names under the sun but i had to get that off my chest! Of course everyones opinions are valid. All I call for is that your comments have reasoned thought behind them. I think its great we have such an active board and people are so passionate about the club, but understand that we are in a rebuidling situation and it isnt going to happen over night. perhaps NP isnt the most enthralling character but i believe we have the best man in place to take us through this period in the clubs history and i really believe we will return to the premiership under the current regime, just not this season and maybe not even next.

    Stay Loyal

Nobody has called the Adebola signing a disgrace, some people have complained but if they have it's created a debate.

I think the majority on here are realistic and this thread is pointless.

Agree, in principal, with every word you say Tigerwill85. No problem with debate, but it has to be reasoned for me, not just plain abuse or an attempt to irritate for the sake of "wumming" some of our more simple contributors.

fair enough, Disgrace was probably the wrong choice of word. Disgruntled maybe would of been a better choice. With regards to creating debate yeah of course thats a good thing but i would say the majority of comments ive read about Adebola have been very negative. I also agree most people on here are realistic but there is also a strong number who are not!

what i find interestng, is the contradictions of some people..the same ones who are negative about adebola and mckenna etc..are the same on other threads predicitng play off fininshes ;) ..we are signing players within our means, nothing wrong witht that, but when you look at the activity of other clubs, we will be nowhere near...not negative, just a realistic observation

It's a fair point, though I think if we get Ayala then our back line will be one of the best in the league, if we get Gulasci and Basso we'd have a pair of good keepers and I think we probably will(or at least something similar). Add to that one or two other attacking players, quite possibly Man United loans again and things look very different.

I think talk of automatics and even top six is premature until the window has closed, but I certainly haven't given up hope of starting this season with a squad capable of a top six finish, though I agree we haven't got one yet.

Dont get me wrong OLM im not condeming us to mediocrity far from it, I do think we could have the makings of a side this year that could challenge. It's more a cry for rationality. Some of the names ive read on here over the summer of "suggested players" were just ludicrous. Personally I think some people may have been spoilt by the premiership years and now have warped senses of reality. I see some people are calling holy mother that we have Basso on trial, Why? does anyone know what contract Duke was on? why are people assuming Basso will be on more? I actually think it would of been the other way round, plus we havent actually signed the lad. He's only on trial. I actually think that he will probably make a very good number 2.

I do agree greatly tigerwill85 with all you said, but these blogs needs opposing views as the slogan is "comment, DEBATE, create"

Things could be worse Will, there was someone on the HDM site not long ago saying that if we had any ambition, we'd be looking at players like Gareth Bale.

The Bottom Line is, if we don't address the REAL reason we failed to get into the play-offs last season then went won't do any better this.

Last season we didn't score enough goals because we didn't create enough chances.

true, about the defence..trouble is on paper we have the best midfield by a country mile..but none of them will be played there...the one who might get picked will probably get picked on the wing, that is the biggest problem

Will, good to see you back mate. Will have to take in a couple of matches together next season? Middlesbrough away with me being back in Newc maybe an option? Yes I agree with you about the unrealistic targets we are obviously buying within our means, big Dele is someone with many years exp in the league so you cant complain at bulking up our squad. Although one thing I do think is unrealistic is to have belief that Bullard will leave as easy as everyone is making out.

I think there are a lot of naturally pesimistic people on here, and lets face if you followed City in the late 80s - 90s you would have good reason! I remember my first post on BBC606 been about not panicking about lack of transfers before the season started due to negitivity, that season we had a lovely trip to Wembley.

On the squad front I think we could do something, The keepers we are linked with are good, add Ayala to the mix and we have a strong defence, a fit Stewart and Koren can give us quality supplly, talking to Forrest fans I know McKenna is a tough old boy who knocks the ball about well, if he can build a partnership with Evans or Cairney we could have a solid CM. Fryatt and Simpson are both decent and with a good pre season together and decent supply they should produce. Add some talented youngsters on loan to bolster options and think there is a chance of a decent placing.
