Son when you come to ER look me up I will help you Cojones I promise and explain your problems in a simple vein
We are seeing a whole new 60. Patronising, condescending and picking on poor lil cojones. I prefer the Mr Maggoo who set off from leeds to leicester down the M62 and left us with no winger!
Cojones, without going into as much detail as your response (mainly because I don't have the time ) I'll give you further reasoning behind my view. Simply, if you keep possession, they can't score. You use the Liverpool and Chelsea game as an example, but the scenarios were completely different. I'm not claiming you need to keep that sort of possession to win a game, you need to be more incisive than that but I am saying if Liverpool had been leading and keeping the ball the same way then it would've completely nullified what Chelsea could've done. And apart from that ridiculous mistake and it is one that is extraordinarily rare Liverpool would've kept a clean sheet with ease. You also pick a game which isn't generally too typical of the modern game. If you were to use Bayern Munich as an example I'm positive you would see very different results. Even look at the Cardiff game we had earlier this season. They must've kept the ball without us touching it for the last 10 mins or so. But most of all, I like the simple facts behind the tactic. If you take it into the corner then your pretty much guaranteed to lose the ball eventually, which means they get the ball back. When you don't have the ball your not in control of the situation, when you do have the ball you are in control. Anyway, this has been way too much time discussing a tiny insignificant tactic in the game
Liverpool last season didn't know what a clean sheet was, they were notorious for upholding the philosophy of "we'll win if we score 1 more than them". My point summed up was that for every 10 times you play guard the ball in the corner you might lose possession 8 of those times. For every 10 times you knock it across the back you might lose possession 2 times. But if when guarding the ball, the 8 times you'd lose possession only 1 leads to a goal, and when playing knock it across the back, the 2 times you'd lose possession both would lead to a goal, then guarding the ball is the safer tactic. While it's true that while you have the ball, they can't score, you assume that only the team in possession can dictate play. That is not true, guarding the ball by the corner flag is all about limiting the oppositions options with the ball. Assuming similar ability of two opposing teams (which is assumed by them sharing a division), a team is unlikely to break through the defense of a team that holds its shape and remains disciplined, which is easier to do in a static environment. Passing the ball by nature promotes a dynamic environment, in which shape and discipline - the keys to a solid defense - are difficult to maintain.
True, Apart from Liverpool 1 Stoke 0 Villa 0 Liverpool 1 Liverpool 1 Man Utd 0 Liverpool 4 Fulham 0 Spurs 0 Liverpool 5 Liverpool 2 Hull 0 Liverpool 4 Everton 0 Southampton 0 Liverpool 3 Man Utd 0 Liverpool 3 Liverpool 4 Spurs 0
10 clean sheets out of 38 does not a league winning team make. As evidenced by the fact that they did not win the league. They were often criticised (quite rightly, too) that they conceded too many and it would eventually bite them on the arse. On the arse it did bite them, they missed out on the title, they sold Suarez and now they can't score for toffee and still have a habit of letting in a fair few.
Yea but now your defending your whole point that every 10 times you knock it round the back you lose 2 goals. You have no proof of this. didn't know you'd become yoda
It was a statistic I pulled off the top of my head because I didn't fancy trawling through the entire of Squawka looking at heatmaps and the like. My point was about variables. There are so many variables in play at any point, all the defending team is doing is reducing their liability from as many variables as possible. That involves taking control of the variables that matter and forgetting about the ones that don't. As already discussed, possession is a variable that doesn't mean very much and has been proven not to mean very much by statistical analysis, and therefore can reasonably safely be forgotten about in just about every situation.
No, thats not a statistic, statistics are facts. These are just numbers you've pulled from the top of your head (which would be completely incorrect if they were factual) to prove your point. I don't at all agree with these numbers.
Disagree with them all you want, a straw man argument isn't going to prove me wrong. Possession as a statistic is still mostly irrelevant and as such can be safely ignored when devising tactics to affect just about any outcome in football, including holding on to a lead in the last few minutes. A more potent statistic would be possession in the three key areas of the pitch, something I'd like to see replace the traditional possession stat. Far more useful.
But you've just completely made up numbers that you have no basis for whatsoever. How is that an argument? Its not irrelevant. Domination teams such as Barca and Bayern will tell you that. And it is completely relevant when you already have a lead and your trying to hold onto it.
Was this post the kiss of death as only 1 point from 15 since it went up? In fact, Redferns last 6 games is worse than Hockawally's!
Got to agree pretty awful, the only thing they have is collectivly their records are better than your palace legend.
Cojones, said with respect, So in short, if we pass the ball around, sharp short passes, the opposition can't score, providing we don't make a mistake or blunder......completely agree. When our players take the ball to the corner flag for no valid and tactical reason, and are surrounded by 2 opposing defenders the opposition actually have the upperhand as they have time to reform and regroup in defence........completely agree. Would that be the same as saying every time Austin takes a shot the opposing defence have the advantage after getting the ball back from the back of the stands....
Come on Chesh. What does Redfearns whole season record look like now? Extrapolate that over 46 games what does it look like?
Stats show, on a pro rata basis, Redders has a worst record to date than Hockaday as a full time coach, but has been in charge for 2 more games. Redders sits with a 25% win ratio, Hockaday had a 33.33% win ratio. Both have won 2 games as a full time coach. During Redders temp role he had a 75% win ratio however, over all the clubs he managed, his stats are well below par.
