I understand where you are coming form but if you are only basing your opinion on his probable potential, then we can only speculate as to whether or not our investment is going to be viable.

I hope he proves me wrong but I'm not gonna hold my breath !

Who cares where the goals come from so long as they come from somewhere. I'd prefer someone in who can contribute to goals as well as scoring a few.

I would have had a go to bring Charlie Austin here in Jan, does the job well up front for QPR, and Gus should have gone back in for Borini. Which big name striker will he bring in in Jan ?, because we need one, where is the ambition ? our present strike force is terrible. Wickham is another Kevin kyle/Tore andre flo type of player to me.

The wages are high yes but i have seen signs from Wickham in the last few weeks that he growing into the season......now whether thats because he was trying hard to push through a new contract only time will tell.
The rest of season has us playing thankfully most of the bottom half clubs at home and hopefully this will push us further up the pitch and allow the lad more support/chances.
£60,000 is crazy money but its a crazy league and who knows if Wickham has a good second half of the season we could get another Henderson sum from someone offered in the summer!

No drugs - Borini scored 10 goals for us last season - only 2 or 3 from open play and the rest were penalties. We are yet to have a penalty this season so what use would Borini have been? He played 37 games last season (starts and sub) and scored 3 from open play - that, if my maths does not deceive me, is less than 1 in 10 let alone 1 in 8.

Spot on Marcus, I have always felt that Borini is over hyped, he is a decent player who is yet to realise his potential. He is certainly not a world beater and his stats don't meet his reputation at the SOL.

Funnily enough marcus as you already have gathered i am a big connor advocate he is english ,he has youth on his side he has played for the u21s on a regular basis home and abroad,he is a big unit to boot he also can play in a wide as he has shown ,two footed and strong in the air ,yes he is still green after saying this about him ,he will become better and i am glad its with us and he has signed a new contract if true, the ideal player to play off him would be Borrini, this i think would be a great partnership for the future ,this would be my ideal front two.

.....total agreement...good points.....I remember Cloughie talking in retrospect about the kind of striker he would look for if he had been given the England job...and he picked out Cyril Regis,,,not because of his RECORD....its what you get him to do...a good manager will make this boy play out of his skin......

    DONE DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Wickham pens new deal
    Published: 09 December, 2014
    by Stuart Vose
    Striker signs contract until 2019.
Sunderland striker Connor Wickham has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal with the club, until 2019.
The 21-year-old front man arrived on Wearside as a highly sought after 18-year-old in 2011, going on to become an established first team player and fan favourite at the Stadium of Light.
I’m delighted that Connor has committed his future to us for the next few years
    - Gus Poyet
Wickham has played in all 15 Barclays Premier League games so far this term and was a key part of the club’s run-in at the end of the 2013-14 campaign, winning the Barclays Player of the Month Award for April, netting five goals in four games.
Speaking about the new deal, head coach Gus Poyet said: “I’m delighted that Connor has committed his future to us for the next few years. After his contribution at the end of last year, he has continued to improve his football and become an important part of our team.
"He keeps learning, he is able to adapt to different positions up front and he is enjoying our philosophy of play so I’m really looking forward to keep working with him for the benefit of our club.
“I think it was very important to tie down a young English centre forward as there are not many around; this shows clearly the way this football club wants to progress.”

    Young, English decent prospect.

15 appearances, 2 league goals this season. 12 goals since he signed 3 years ago. £60k per week.

Lots of pros and cons with this bloke.

The Telegraph got the length of contract wrong in their report, so the weekly wage is also probably wrong <ok>

Any news on his wage packet. Personally it's not a case of he's signed so I'm happy. It all depends on the deal. We had him by the balls so I don't believe it's 60k a week.

Personally think that was his agent trying to hype the deal up

Think at most he'd be on 45k p/w and that includes goal/assist/win bonuses etc

Will SAFC still tell his agents and his dad to go away in jerky movements? If the rumours are true they are complete tw*ts.
