After last nights result, it would appear that now officially, West Ham have had a better start to the season than Southampton, so as predicted, Koeman's not the next Fergie, at least not yet, he just had a good start. Looking at managers and comparing their ability is easy when you look at current form, but who out of the current 20 is the best at 'getting the job done'? Here's my top 5 in order: Jose Mourinho Louis Van Gaal Sam Allardyce Roberto Martinez Gus Poyet JM and LVG have won the lot, so no real need to go into depth with them for me, although you're all welcome to disagree! Allardyce may not be the third best manager, in terms of strategy on the pitch or attractive football but in terms of objectives, he seems to never fail, that's priceless in this league. Next season, if he has objectives of top 6/7 he may end up in trouble. Martinez is suspect defensively, but sets up teams to play football the right way and has had success by doing so. Poyet is possibly the only manager aside from Mourinho who has improved his team from last season incredibly, not just in terms of personnel. Gary Monk is another who might be in there for the same reason but he does have Bony at his disposal which is why I've gone for Poyet who's had to 'make do' for the most part. Special mention to Sean Dyche who I think is an actual 'breath of fresh air' in this league. Holloway wasn't, he was an idiot, Dyche is a realist with a great policy in place at Burnley and a very likeable bloke from what I've seen. Who's your top 5 from this league?
Paul Lambert would definitely get a mention. Villa are on 19 points, half way to safety with under half the season gone and he's barely spent a penny. I'd have him in ahead of Martinez (28m on Lukaku) and Everton are bottom half.
That's just form though mate, Paul Lambert has wheeled out some of the most boring, predictable football I bet them Villa fans have seen in years. Martinez sets his teams up to play football and to score goals. Lambert has been given a rough ride by their owner mind, he's done a good job keeping that side in the EPL, Allardyce does that kind of thing in his sleep though, although he's been given a decent amount to spend also.
That surprises me, based on his spending only, nothing biased. I think I should have put Wenger in really, given his credentials and achievements but he seems to have lost his nuts at some point mid-2000's and never found them again. Can't fault him for developing players though, maybe he should have been in there for mine.
I like Rogers, yes he has blundered millions on crap players in the summer but I still think he will come good. Wenger has to be in there despite the last few seasons not being anywhere near challenging for the title, they are still constantly finishing in the top 4 and getting into the CL every year.
Yeah, with Wenger I agree, I probably just wanted to put some names in that weren't all top 5 managers. Rodgers no from me, looks out of his depth.
...come on, Wenger has to be the mix, also, I think Pelligrini is a shrewd and clever manager. Of the recent crop, Gary Monk has done very well at Swansea imo.
Where's Allardyce done a particularly bad job? He was good at Bolton, given their size and stature, got them to a European place. Done a fantastic job at Blackburn, then the dumb as **** owners come in and ruined everything. Done a decent job with West Ham to date, been under pressure and come out fighting, made real progress this season. Got fired by Ashley at Newcastle for Kevin Keegan... that worked out well. I've admitted, Wenger should really be up there, but by that logic, so too should Fergie, Wenger may as well be ****ing retired now. Monk has done ok yeah, although I'd be interested to see how he'd deal without Bony.
No bias here I see..!!!! I think Pardew should get some sort of mention!! Martinez??? WTF... Not one of his teams he has ever managed can defend.. I con not see why everybody goes on about him so much. If he did not talk so much to the media they would not have the love for him. His teams can not defend and when his teams can not score he is lost as to what to do.... I also think Poyet has done a really good job with you lot. You are hard to beat but you need some sort of attacking threat, which at the moment, you do not have!! Endeavour, grit and determination can only get you so far boys!!
Ref Martinez, he won the FA Cup with Wigan, a team that should never have been challenging for that cup, he also managed to set up a team to defend well enough last season, to finish 5th with a points tally that would usually have been good enough for 4th. He's been great in Europe with Everton as well. I think he'll learn how to work the defence and then move on to the next level. Real Madrid have never had the best defence, they've done ok over the years. As for Pardew, to each their own. I don't rate the bloke as a tactician, if you do put him in your list. I'd have had Bobby Robson in the top 5 of all time EPL managers by the way, his teams were brilliant to watch.
He works on Gillette Soccer Saturday now as the most boring, uninspired pundit ever. Good at his job mind, surely won't be out of work much longer!
Depends what the question is... Who's got the greatest credentials? Who's doing the best job? Who would I most like to have as Sunderland manager? Who's got the greatest credentials? Mourinho LVG Wenger Pellegrini Koeman Who's doing the best job? Mourinho Allardyce Koeman LVG Pardew (Pellegrini goes in there if he sorts of the Champions league but not until then.) Who would I most like to have as Sunderland manager? Mourinho Poyet Pellegrini LVG Martinez
Without looking at anyone else's: Wenger Jose Pelligrini Van Gaal Hughes (hate him though) Bottom few: Warnock Redknapp Irvine Bruce
who would i want in charge of my club : Poyet Allardyce Martinez Van Gaal Koeman who would i not want in charge of my club : Pardew Bruce Monk Rodgers Redknapp
Some blatant arse licking there putting Poyet in the top 5 He's done rank average at very best. Also if you don't put Pardew in at number 1 you clearly have no clue about football My genuine top 5, no particular order but Jose is top: Mourinho Martinez LVG Pochettino Koeman Honourable mentions to Wenger who used to be one of the worlds best but should have retired at the end of last season, Pearson and Dyche who need to prove themselves in top flight but done everything right so far, and Neil Warnock who I think is a really good bottom half manager but would be a shambles for a team with aspirations.
