There is some stuff going around facebook saying that there is going to be a stadium expansion in 2017 to a capacity of 40,000 seats. They have a stadium image of the supposed expansion plan. View attachment 34359
That picture was doing the rounds in 2009, if not earlier. Wasn't it a mock up for the world cup bid?
Yea some of the comments are saying that the image that I linked is the image for the original design of 34,000 seats. Some of the comments on facebook are saying that the expansion is supposedly going to be to the original design qty of seats. They are saying that its being leaked from the council. There is some event in 2017 that they want the capacity ready for supposedly at least according to the rumor.
Wouldnt necessarily mean it wasnt true, could just use the design already made. Im not saying it is true, its facebook after all. Crap like this is always going around.
We're a small town, small time club in a big city. Baby steps, ellewoods; baby steps. Begin selling out our 25,000 retail park bowl and then start thinking about increasing the capacity to 30-45,000 or whatever.
I don't recall. They were looking for external funding. That design actually only adds about 5,000 as it just replicates the upper west. I'm not sure where the other 10k would come from. I think the extra 10k was temporary thinking about it.
Im not saying that I think upping capacity by 15,000 would be smart. Im just passing along something that people are talking about on facebook like they have inside info or something.
Well 5,000 would make a lot more sense than adding some 15,000 of which most would just end up being empty on game day.
On the stadium. What problems are there with the turnstiles? I got in fine no queues or nowt. Are others having problems?
I disagree to some extent. The stadium capacity is somehow lower now than previous seasons I believe, but to create the opportunities to get 25k plus in the ground regularly, we'd need a 30k capacity, that we'd possibly occasionally fill. At the moment, you can't get decent sits if a few of you want to pay on the day or be near mates.
Well, the person who posted it said 40,000. Then others corrected him and said that the council is going to do it to the original design which they say is 34,000. No one is actually saying you all are full of **** and making crap up which is why I started the thread.
I have no idea if it's true or not. There will be funds available from a lot of different places and there's a real desire to capitalise on the City of Culture, so who knows. It does seem odd that the numbers don't add up as that design 5k extra, unless they tweak the walkway maybe, but it wouldn't surprise me if they leak things to test public reaction.
