I want us to play the diamond - it's the only way that suits our players. The 4-2-3-1 has to be scrapped - it's not worked ONCE this season. Play Sterling up top alongside Borini or Markovic. I know it's not Sterling's best position but I rather he up front than Lambert. Give the defenders something to worry about for a change and he at least resembles Sturridge's playing style. I'd choose Markovic purely because he has pace and the lad needs to play. He can't be any worse than Lambert and Borini, and his 15 min cameo was encouraging. Play Lallana in the number 10 role with Coutinho and Henderson behind. And Lucas in as the DM. Manquillo - Skrtel - Toure - Moreno back 4. Rodgers needs to ditch this possession style game - it didn't work in his first season and it's not working now. Play to the strengths of the team which is pressing and fast counters.
Jimmy I agree in general but we don't have the players to do much of anything either way. 4-2-3-1 doesn't work but neither does 4-3-3- nor 4-1-2-1-2. I do not agree with putting sterling or/an markovic upfront as i've seen NOTHING to suggest that works from either boy in front of goal. We simply need to scrop it out til jan 1 and do our best to still be in the two cups and not 10 points off 4th by then... jsut battle. ergo lambert up front but we must find the way to play with him. we are not doing that... our lot and manager have no clue how to play with a big target man and run off him... none. why the f was rogders after bony and lambert if hed no clue how to coach a player to play with said target. I personally would simply play 4-2-4 and if borini is fit per twatter stick him in and tell the two widemen to get wide. I think lallana Lambert have to play together even though i don't rate lallana... so its all about who else...
it's like.......... we've all given up cos rodgers won't stick him in. Can has CL experience. I think he's been done zero favors to get a run at all by rodgers and i'm disappointed in this big time. for the record i can't see rodgers sticking him in ahead of allen.... i don't even know where he'd pick him anyway.
I know what you mean - Sterling and Markovic aren't natural strikers and are very hit and miss in front of goal. But it's about attacking with pace and striking some fear into the opposition. No one is afraid of us. They look at Lambert and they laugh. We play with Lambert and we end up lumping sh*t crosses into the box. I rather Sterling and Markovic have chances to MISS rather than playing with Lambert up front and not creating anything. We've hardly created anything his season - our chance creation is almost non existent - that's how bad we are. We literally take 40 odd mins to even have a shot on target in most matches. And in the diamond - we have Henderson playing a proper box to box role and not having to sit too deep and being a spare part. Having Coutinho in CM means we have a player who can pick the ball up from deep and actually carry the ball up field. Rodgers's job is on the line IMO - if he loses in the CL and to Man United, I really do fear for him. So he may as well sod this possession style, cautious approach and go all out.
I'd rather one of these boy know by looking at the type of ball delivered to lambert what he can actually do with it and then go make a run allowing him to deliver the flick on etc. play off the guy with sense not just make silly runs... for this game what we need is high press and pressure on this side. no time for keeper of cbs to settle and as such i think Henderson has to be high up. I feel full backs advancing isn't so vital until we've possession etc so i'd be happy with a 4-2-4 set up where we still the two full backs to sit in a bit and push the 4 right up in their faces and press hard.
it doesnt matter what team is out there brendan will lose us this match guaranteed with his setup and tactics, dont get me wrong i want my team to progress but imo basel are the better team at the mo and deserve the place more than we do.
On the hand, rather a lame 1-0 win than go all out and lose in an exciting manner. I know which one seems more likely given recent performances as well.
Yep and we won't be putting anyone under pressure with Lambert up front. Plain and simple. Lambert is a good option to bring off the bench for the last 10 mins in the hope of snatching something. This is all he's good for. The fact that he's starting is an indictment on our transfer strategy this summer but hey ho. With Sterling and Markovic up top, you have two players who have pace to striker fear into defenders. And Sterling is more than capable of making great runs - perfect for the likes of Coutinho who will finally have a striker who makes the runs and will feed off those throughballs.
I think he will choose a strange team, full of pace and just run at them. -------------Ming Johnson-Skrtel-Kolo-Moreno ------------Lucas --------Hendo---Gerrard Sterling----Borini----Markovic That's what I expect he will do.
Are you sure? Seriously, do you really expect him to play that team? Personally I'd surpised to see that line-up. Do you have any inside knowledge?
