Quite simply he's there because he was that good for us.

Mine are chosen on merit/quality of the individual and their performances for the club.

In the past 20 years we've not had an all round striker as good as him.

Simple as that.

Surprised you said Asprilla. As quality as he was, you was on for winning the league until you signed him.

Yeah but it wasn't his fault we didn't win it. Keegan and the players just lost their nerve, in the last 6-8 games Keegan pretty much lost all faith in our ability to defend, his answer was to play Ginolla, Asprilla, Ferdinand and Gillespie together in pretty much a 4-2-4 and all it did was put more pressure on the defence. Not only that it increased the pressure on the front four to get more goals than the opposition. As a result most of the team underperformed in the run in.

Can never forget Asprilla's hatrick against Barca either so he makes the bench purely based on that.

You are playing better since he has been injured; his complaining to the press about missing Champions League football, hating Manchester and struggling with English is not helping morale
 
This is really tough. As a Southampton fan, we've been up and down a lot in recent years and had a number of grest players who only reached those heights after leaving Soton (just as a consequence of their age). I've tried to put it together based on their quality, not their service to the club, but also recognising only the quality they showed while actually with the club, not since. 4-2-2-2 formation.

I can't remember now, what did you do prior to Asprilla joining? It was before Shearer joined wasn't it...?

I find that quite interesting. Players like Bale, Walcott, The Ox, etc have come through your ranks but obviously it was their earlier days with you so easy to understand why you've not included them in your main team. If you took there efforts at other clubs into account they'd all be automatic picks.

Always think the West Ham team of about fifteen years ago makes for interesting reading, especially since they got relegated with them too; Rio, Lampard, Carrick, Joe Cole, Defoe, etc lead by Ian Wright, Paulo Di Canio, etc
