Let's all hope he comes good, the deal is done no going back. We need to get behind him, he is one of us for 5 more years. He will have my support.
I would be happy to keep him on his current wage, but to more than double his earnings would be stupid in my opinion This one is going to be a rope around our neck for years to come
Agree JD, but it's happened, we need to get behind him, no one else will touch him on that dosh. We have no choice. Just hope he doesn't become a Danny G.
Great . How about comparing him with the two top strikers at the moment , Aguero and Costa just to see the gulf in passing accuracy.
What matters when all is said and done is that gus poyet has wanted to sign him to a new contract ,that should be good enough for anybody who believes in what hes doing at sunderland and his long term plans . All the little charts and graphs mean nothing ,its the manager who really knows who/what he wants and he quite clearly wanted him to stay, thats the be all and end all.
Surprised at the figures being mentioned when you consider Danny Ings will be available for peanuts in January.
Absolutely correct but this is a forum and if we didn't discuss things we'd have to call it the 606 blank space
Agree with you mate that quite clearly Gus has a plan & CW is in it! But I'm not dismissing the stat man's charts.. I'm happy for him to stay but would be keen to see the coaching staff work on his short game tbf
Good business sense . Without the contract we would lose him without a fee. Even if he only score one every eight we should make some money at the end of the season.
Ok Aguero and Costa on passing? I'll knock that together for you. I'll add shooting as well. Might as well while I'm on. please log in to view this image Ok, here's the Comparison Matrix, a lot of fun. Have a tinker when you have a minute. There more in depth stats like where the passes actually go, must must be viewed by individual match reports http://www.squawka.com/comparison-matrix Edit: put goals scored in twice like a right tool
It's not as black and white as that. Gus doesn't agree wages on contracts. I have 100% faith in gus. That doesn't mean I have to be happy with a contract offer made by someone else does it? I was happy for Conner to be sold if Gus saw fit. I was also happy for him to sign a new contract if Gus saw fit. I've always had objections to giving him a hefty pay rise which has nothing what so ever to do with Gus. That's between Ellis, Maggie and Congerton. As for Charts and Stats, well we're entitled to discuss his questionable form, it is after all a football forum. Maybe you're more suited to a forum where nobody questions anything. www.nineteeneighty-fourums.co.uk
You can't know that. If those figures are correct we've just given him over 15m over 5 years, only time will tell. We would have got a fee too. There's no way he was going abroad, they can't compete with wages.
Id like to see a comparison please, maybe choose the top strikers from the mid range clubs around ourselves.
And also all of the ones who are around 21 years old playing out on the wing as well. I think too many people forget that Connor is only 21 and expect the same from him as we would expect from a prime age striker. Very few 21 year olds play consistently well for more than half a dozen games. Form is patchy but I rate him very highly and think he will develop to be a very good player.
Interesting reading even if its a bit of an unfair comparioson, especially the shots outside/inside the box. Stats can be read many ways but those stats show me than he isint get much service in the box and most chances he creates himself from long range.............of course playing devils advocate could also mean he is not finding the spaces in the box, but watching us play compared to Man City and Chelsea id go for theory number 1
Aye, the interesting info is entirely in Connors column. Think you've picked out a couple of striking stats there. Connor relies on his strikers instinct outside the box far too much for my liking mate. He takes the shot when he has better options on. He needs to learn fast about his decision making from that inside left position. Different position, different responsibilities init. Given his long rang shooting is pretty poor I really hope Gus is working on his passing and decisions. Or Gus could stop playing him out of position As an out and out striker I think he can get us 1 in 3, but as an inside forward I think he needs far too much work.
I think given the fact he isn't playing as a striker maybe it would be better to compare him with some inverted wingers instead to see what the standard is in that position. Ne point comparing him to strikers when he's not playing that role is there? It's not that I believe he's not good enough for us, it's more that I'm certain he's not good enough for the position he's playing in.
I have not seen anything from the club about Wickham signing a new deal, so is this actually true or is it agents mixing a bottle and leaking it to the London based media.
