Liverpool Vs Basel Champions League Showdown please log in to view this image Liverpool and Basel come together for a winner take all match up on Tuesday night in the last game of the group stage, one of these two are going through and the other may take 3rd depending on results. Only a victroy will suffice for LFC but Basel can take a draw and knock out the 5 times winners. Team News: Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli will be out injured Not 606 Favorites (due to not having played) Sakho and Flanagan are still in recovery but this game seems to be coming too soon. Possible Line-Ups Liverpool: Mignolet, Johnson, Skrtel, Toure, Enrique, Lucas, Henderson, Gerrard, Sterling, Lallana, Lambert. Basel: VaclÃk, Safari, Suchý, Schär, Xhaka, Frei, Serey Die, Gashi, El Nenny, Streller, Embolo Key Men: Gerrard I'm sorry but expect the main man to kick every ball and take every throw, free and corner. This is the big occasion and Gerrard is a man for the big occasions. In 2005 he was a different player but don't be shcoked if he does something on Tuesday night to roll back the years.... pity he will then be s**te for 5 games after Shkëlzen Gashi Gashi is an Albanian whic plays an attacking midfielder role. He's scored 11 goals in 15 in the league and while he's only played twice in the CL he scored in the 4-0 win against Ludogorets and is their leading goal scorer. I thought i'd take a turn at doing the match thread for this one for a laugh. seeing there are many matches coming up.
I am unwilling to just add that option every time, only when its a thread about mito being a toal prick and actually moderating.
Got a ****ing **** record against this club haven't we. Not exactly inspiring hope but with luck we'll get the result we need. Games coming thick and fast now though... another match day tomorrow.
This is a seriously massive game for us, the biggest we've had for a while (well, since 'that' game). With it being at Anfield I'm expecting a cracking atmosphere. I want us to play well and win but we all know we won't play well so I'll take a scrappy 1-0 win if needs must. Can't wait for this game, its what football is all about!
The predicted scenario is a 1-0 in the first half, then under pressure from Basel throughout the 2nd half and we score on the counter. Goal for them in the last 10 minutes and we hold on. 2-1
Truth. As for your third sentence, you have been watching us this season, right?? At best we'll scrape past, can't really predict anything else on current form. There have been no signs of life to suggest a sudden resurgence of attacking brilliance and defensive fortitude. I understand your hopes as a fan for some kind of miracle turnaround, Rodgers talking about 'one moment' to be the start of that isn't exactly helping, but we're looking to be in this scrap for the long haul unless we can sort our shortcomings out in the winter window.
They knocked you out in the group stage in those previous meetings in 2003 iirc? History repeating?
For absolutely no reason I think we'll do it. 3-1. f** them. If we play with the intensity we played against Madrid (until they decided to score ) we're halfway there. Defend like we did at Madrid and we'll win. During the celebrations we put a shirt on Grant Xhaka and bundle him into the dressing room.
