Harry Redknapp bans grandkids from QPR games after vile abuse from rivals

HARRY REDKNAPP has banned his grandkids from watching QPR games – because of “terrible abuse” he gets from rival fans.

QPR boss Harry Redknapp "TERRIBLE ABUSE": Harry Redknapp bans grandkids from QPR matches because of vile abuse from rival fans [PAul Baxter / Mercury Press ]

The Hoops boss revealed how he refuses to let his two grandsons see him in action at matches due to the toxic atmosphere.

Harry, 67, insisted he did not want his son Jamie’s lads, Charles, eight, and Beau, six, to listen him being called “a c**t” the whole game.

In an interview with footie mag Four Four Two, the former Spurs and Southampton manager said: "If I could change one thing about football, it would be how supporters behave.

"The abuse is terrible. The chanting and obscenities too much.

"I used to go to football with my dad to see Arsenal, Millwall, West Ham, and there was no one shouting filth at each other.

"I recently wouldn’t let my grandchildren, who are six and eight, come to see QPR at Southampton because I didn’t want for them to hear me called a c*** for the whole game."

But,the problem is, he has acted like a c*** in the past, and fans don't forget that, certainly not quickly.

You have to let fans with an IQ of less than 80 express their opinions. We allow them on here.

I may get ridiculed for this but I would love to ban that word from public use! A disgusting word. I can completely understand, as a grandfather, Harry's position on this one.

If anyone used that word near my grandchildren, they would know my displeasure in no uncertain terms but with the absence of any swear words!

Live by the sword die by the sword … Football is bigger than religion i say don't try and make it act like religion
You get paid to handle this pressure and you have made a wise choice not to allow small children at these matches IMO.
I had to sit down with my three lads first time at QPR because it does un nerve them and I was concerned about it as a parent as this culture does rub off on them without a doubt
Men behave completely different at a football match .. it's always been tribal and release from a working week and alcohol fuelled … knocking out time in a pub in the UK on a Saturday night I expect you will find plenty of places where it kicks off ( i was in one this weekend … found myself laughing at it all)

The working class UK culture at football matches can't be expected to be any different in a country where the culture has gone down the pan … Harold your choice is clear isolate them with you money and send them to private school .. They will grow up with money and an idea they are better … They will use the name **** without doubt anyway and probably be involved in football with the family's history … if they do then they will be called ****s no doubt ... what do you exactly want?

IMO you have acted like a **** at times during your career … don't pretend so what you are saying is that you want to hide the truth from your own family

You have made a living out of being the names they call you and live in Sandbanks honestly what do you expect as a human being

I think the title is misleading - it suggests that all games are off limits.

I'm sure a lot of people will recognise that Southampton is a special case for Arry. You wouldn't use Figo in a Real shirt at the Nou Camp as a typical example of how fans react to players.

Football is a sort of primal scream therapy for a large number and I'd prefer people took their frustrations out in a few vocal displays in an enclosed arena than let it bottle up and explode elsewhere.

Personally, while I don't have a problem with the c word (mostly used aimed at myself in muttered moments of annoyance at some mistake I've made) I don't feel the need to abuse other people but, when you have stands that are 14+ and you can obviously hear their output, then you should expect that there's a reason for the age restriction.

i agree 2 wrongs don't make a right as well but get real … banning the word would just invite more use great idea but not in any shape or form every going to happen … it's waffle to suggest it IMO … probably universally the top insult? apart from a racist word .. it's provokes a bit more than displeasure.
I have a few times told people to watch their mouths in the presence of young children … Last season got told to **** off you cnut at QPR v Brighton in Z6 … so where do you take it from there? I was boiling like hell to punch him and so was my mates … In fact he got dealt with by the stewards but it's the environment so you can't push it under the carpet

It's about making sure that your children understand it's offensive nature IMO

I would also guarantee you all that Harold uses this word daily himself he just didn't want to let his grand children hear other people call him that name and my point is he who he is and his history is fully understandable with the Saints

Look on here with the Hughes haters … many have called him the same thing

I'm sorry DT, but I cannot tolerate or give in to such anti-social behavior, or a belief that we should be striving for such.

In a modern developed economy, we should be able to take children to a football match, and expect a minimum of acceptable behavior.

Agree 100% but that would mean changing the UK culture regarding football. Maybe the way forward is to fine the clubs for chanting I don't know but something big would need to shift. The homophobic chants have been tackled a bit but stronger measures are required.

In Harold's case it's hard to stomach that he has come out and said this IMO as fly on the wall documentaries generally have shown managers from the UK footballing culture have potty mouths … Graham Taylor for England, Neil Warnock etc etc

Seems to be not the actual words used in football but the manner is which they are delivered

We may have to stop the crowds chanting all together … The game itself is trying to clean up it's act but what can they do about the paying punters? … A lot of people go to football to release and swear IMO

The games a contradiction - a family friendly game where swearing from fans and players is acceptable (up to but excluding the c word). A man's game where people roll around play-act. A financially fair game with no hint of an even playing field. A game where match fixing is frowned upon but the ruling body would sell their grannies for a brown envelope full of cash.

The penalties for crowds hurling racist or homophobic abuse is lenient to non-existent (I think society drags it forward on a long trailing rope).

The game has no identity and no clear leadership IMO.

Rrrrrs, as a bartender, and one of those many people put on this earth to make chef's lives miserable, I've got a lot of respect for what you do.

I've tried back of house. Couldn't handle the pressure. So I get to be face to face with the other group of people that exist to make your life difficult!

I'm not saying this is the case with rrrrr's but in my experience I've generally found Chefs to be obnoxious bullies.

No doubt some of them are alright but its a profession that seems to attract a lot of w*nkers

Second part fine, that's your call. First part, define 'public' - will you be burning books, closing down large chunks of the internet and banning films too? Will you be continuing to use the word in private?

It's got nothing to do with the economy, and everything to do with our culture. Just hang around in any town centre and listen, not just to the yoof and not just on Friday or Saturday nights. The culture can change though, as DT points out homophobic and racist language is increasingly taboo.

I have no problem with swearing, its a good way to express feelings and can be very funny. It's tedious and moronic when used repetitively as punctuation though. Walking the dog yesterday I got caught in a hailstorm, and for the first time in ages was not wearing a hat. As the ice slid down my neck I bellowed 'f**ing hell!' at a volume which surprised even me, then noticed a couple getting their young kids out of a car. I apologised and they laughed. It's the intent behind the words that is important, and you can wound just as deeply without swearing.

Your avatar, is I think, Jack Nicholson, a man who has never shied away from swearing on and off screen, and at basketball matches.

In the 1930's when an elderly butler was asked what he liked most in the world, he replied 'Lying in bed on a summer morning, with the window open, listening to the church bells, eating buttered toast with c**ty fingers.' This provided the inspiration for Henry Green's novel "Loving" (a mad tale of an Irish country house during WW2). It's one of my favourite lines anywhere. It's a fine word, in the right context.
