A gumgaurd and a flimsy had guard aren't really going to stop a ball hurting if it smacks you in the face <laugh>

And seen plenty of injuries where someone has swung the stick back and caught people in faces etc... pretty hard to avoid there <yikes>

I was always at a disadvantage at school being left handed when playing hockey.

I thought the only purpose of men playing hockey was to break sticks across shins.

More likely to break your shins than the stick. What Stick's you playing with, Bread Sticks?

Seriously you should have tried playing, football is a cake walk in comparison. The chances of getting hurt are far greater, plus the pace of the game is alot higher in Hockey.

Used to play a lot of hockey. Some of the non-familiar posters opinions on the subject are ****ing ******ed and retrograde to say the least. You do realise hockey sticks are made out of carbon fibre and **** nowadays??

Got hit in the head and concussed from a short corner once Rog. Was running off the goal line to defend and the twat lifted it with power. That was my last game. Too many ****ing nut jobs with too much aggression and no skill or control over what they're doing.

My stick is a lovely Adidas carbon fibre/composite mix, cost £120. New for this season. Light as a feather, hits like a ****ing cannon.

Game today was a against a team we refer to as 'agricultural', no real skill as a team just like taking lumps out of the opposition. As you say no skill and very little control and not just on what they were doing but also on tempers.

Worst ball/stick injuries I've had (ie getting hit by them) one on the nose (ball), stick across my hand and up into my neck and took a ball to the bellend (that one smarted).
Worst injury I've witness, one of our players took a ball right in his balls full wack, ended up losing one.

The ball to the head is a fairly common one and usually the one that gets people to stop playing. Except the guy at our club who had his eye socket crushed from a stray ball.

Got a mate who still plays for team I used to play for who spaffed over 200 on a new stick recently. Was a Dita one I think.

Played against plenty of teams like the one you beat today. Worst I saw was one of my mates get his tooth smashed through his lip from contact with a stick, cam out the socket and through. A lovely sight. He didn't wear a gum guard.

Hockey keepers in my experience are mental human beings. The ones I knew ****ing loved getting balls twatted at them and generally would be the ones in the dressing room getting everyone up for it shouting '****ing let's have it' and such.

I played as a right winger so had quite a bit of pace, decent stick skills and a scud missile of a shot. Was always getting nasty twats trying to break my legs and shoving their stick in between my legs (Ooh er). Played for two teams though, school and county league. For school they used to stick me in central defence sometimes because I'm tall and could give orders to the ones who weren't sure what to do. Was made captain eventually.

The worst part of us not winning is that I just cannot motivate myself to watch MOTD now.

    Saturday football ruined!

  13. **** that, you occasionally get hurt in sport. The sensible people just wear appropriate protection.

The only ones wearing sensible protection in hockey are the keepers!

Deftones are good, Diamond Eyes and Around the Fur are my favs. Like Iowa by Slipknot. Tool are great. As are the Sabbath. Not really listened to much Megadeath, Alice, or Soil. Check out a current British band called Devil Sold His Soul or the Aussie band Parkway Drive... both good.

    <ok>

I've heard of Parkway Drive but not listened to them. Devil sold his sole I've not heard of but will give a go.

You've got to get on Rust in Peace by Megadeth mate. Its such an intensively brilliant album. 100% best thrash album of all time imo.

Around the Fur is my fav Deftones album too! Good stuff, White Pony is good too.

Give 'Dirt' by Alice in Chains a go. Heavy and quite sludgy, but very good.
