The Spain striker, 20, canât establish himself at the Nou Camp â despite his exciting talent â because Lionel Messi, Pedro and David Villa are the recognised forward players at the European champions. And Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is interested in taking advantage of that situation. He travelled to Denmark last month to watch Bojan in the Spain versus England clash in the European Under-21 Championships. But it proved to be a frustrating trip for the Spurs boss, as Bojan played for only a few minutes as a substitute. Bojan, who has one full cap, wonât come cheap, either. He is valued at £14million but Barcelona could demand nearer to £20m as he is under contract for another four years. He signed a new five-year deal last summer. It emerged last night that Tottenham and the other English clubs eyeing Bojan now face competition for him from top Italian club Roma, who believe they can produce a package to satisfy both Barcelona and the player. Bojan Krkic Perez, to give him his full name, was born in Catalonia in Spain â but is of Serbian descent. Heâs regarded as a dual international in Barcelona, as he has also played for Catalonia. Bojan, who has also been linked with Arsenal and Liverpool this summer, can operate as a winger as well as a central striker. He has scored 26 goals in 104 La Liga matches for the Champions League winners and he represented Spain at Under-17s and Under-21s level, in addition to becoming a full international. It was while he was in Spainâs Under-17s team that he earned his wonder-boy status, scoring 16 goals in 20 matches. ------------ Usual paper talk or something in it?
This has to piss Roma off no end, because they just signed him. Probably won't stop us being linked to him every summer until he hangs up his boots, though...
Some Spanish paper has him listed as a Roma player, and their sports journalism is a damn sight better than ours - just like the Italian press spend weeks laughing at Man City's bidding for Kaka, pointing out that he wasn't remotely interested whilst SSN et al kept saying Kaka would be a City player.
According to Wiki (yes, I know!) he used to play for Spain but now plays for Catalonia national team?
He plays for both (as do Busquets and Puyol) And the article saying he'd moved to Roma has been removed.
Roma don't have him listed as one of theirs and he's still on the Barca site, so it looks like there's still some work to do, Croydon. That's probably why we've been mentioned. As I said before, Barca might be trying to get the Italians to pull their finger out. You can play for both Spain and the Catalans, SSS. It's a non-FIFA/UEFA side that doesn't compete in the official tournaments. Busquets, Puyol, Valdes, Xavi, Fabregas and Guardiola all have caps for them.
Didn't we get Dos Santos from Barca? Okay, I know that history is unlikely to repeat itself (says he, keeping his fingers crossed), but what would worry me more with Bojan is that Barca see him as one of their (like Fabregas), as entice him back to Barca for next to nothing, after we've spent a few seasons building him up and fitting him into our squad.
It is, in today's market, when the likes of Carroll go for £35 million. Actually, it's not really the fact that we'd get short-changed by Barca that would upset me the most; it would be the disruption it would cause to our team. I am certain that Arsenal would have done better last season if they have let Fab leave last Summer..
You just can't help having a pop can you? What's wrong with voicing such a concern. It's not as if Barca don't have any form for this. Would want one of our players to be pursued in the way that Fabregas has, and for us to be made a laughing stock in the same way that the Gooners have? I certainly wouldn't. If the player is any good, Barca won't let him go, anyway.
Its not a concern that players sign, and players leave, thats football and it will never change. The Goons aren't a laughing stock yet as nobody has left...oh, Clichy. Speak to most goons and they'll be glad to see the back of him, dunno why, don't care. As for Bojan. IF he were to sign (more likely to sign Mr, Bojangles imo) and IF he gave us the number of years service Fab has to the goons before returning, I'd be quite happy. Its not his fault Wenger has surrounded him with losers for 6 yrs.
I have no idea how much Arsenal bought him for originally, but taking his age and the experience he had at the time into account, it is probably safe to say that they got Fabregas for less than £10mil. Selling him back for over £35mil is just good business sense. You seem to be arguing that the shame of losing one of our players is not worth making a 300-400% profit. Daniel Levy will not see it that way, thankfully. Otherwise Tottenham Hotspur will go the way of Portsmouth.
