http://rokerreport.sbnation.com/2014/12/6/7345197/report-striker-agrees-new-sunderland-contract Connor Wickham is to hand Sunderland a welcome boost by agreeing a new 5-year contract at the club, reports The Telegraph. The report claims that Gus Poyet has persuaded the former Ipswich man to commit his future to the club. Or, if you're of a more cynical disposition, perhaps the reported £60,000 a week did. There is no official confirmation from the club yet, so take it with a pinch of salt if you want. John Percy does have a very good reputation for being a very well-researched and factual reporter, though, so it's a noteworthy story to say the least. Wickham was a massively influential figure in saving the club from relegation last season, but has been used mainly on theleft side of the attack so far this season, with varying levels of success. Some fans hate to see him there, though personally I think he's growing nicely into a very specialist role in Poyet's system. If true, and it's a big if until the club remove all doubt, credit to them for getting it sorted. --------- Tried to find the telegraph article http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ew-60000-a-week-deal-to-stay-at-the-club.html Connor Wickham is set to provide Sunderland with a huge boost by agreeing a new five-year contract. Wickham will end the uncertainty surrounding his future and sign a long-term deal worth £60,000 a week to stay at the Stadium of Light. The £8million signing's current contract runs out at the end of this season and he could have moved abroad in January for a fee of just £500,000. West Ham United failed with a £4million bid in the summer for the striker while Crystal Palace have maintained an interest but Sunderland have stepped up negotiations over the past month and expect to confirm Wickham's new deal within the next few days. Gus Poyet, the manager, had feared losing Wickham in June but he has succeeded in persuading the England under-21 international to stay on Wearside. Wickham played a significant role in Sunderland's remarkable escape from relegatrion from last season, scoring five goals in three games. ------------------------------------------------------------ Fantastic news if true imo Hopefully that 60k is a bit rubbish by his agent or its bonuses But I for one am quite glad that we have managed to keep hold if true! Will wait for club confirmation like
As said in the article mate the reported wage is from his Agent...so wouldnt take that seriously It might be possibly that including goal/win/clean sheet bonuses etc
Played very well today which might be a result of the new contract. IF he plays like he did at the end of last season then he is worth it, if not then its up to Gus to get that form out of him, he is capable of it. To be honest he has come on massively in the last 12 month and if that continues it could be well worth the new contract. We must still strengthen in Jan a new striker and a centre half are a must.
All i do know is we cannot afford to lose him in january, maybe a slightly forced hand but hey ho, english for one
Definitely want to keep him. How does that wage compare to Catts, Fletch, Seb etc? Thought he played well today again, perhaps gave it away a bit too often but looked a threat
60k a ****ing week? No way on gods earth will we be paying him that. Happy for him to re-sign and hopefully develop, but at that price I'd be ****ing mortified.
He'll be ultimately judged on goals, and for me he's not prolific enough. Vegas is right, another striker is vital!
Surely that makes Fletchs position iffy to say the least. Imo DG won't be coming back, Jozy ????? Not sure, will Mandron and Watmore get their chance OR will we still sign another striker. Salam would be good. Back to a big/little man strike force. LiV said it right the potentials there it's just bringing it out. Hope the wages are bonus based.
Ellis to give the full amount he is allowed per season? Would be very interesting Not sure January would be the best time like
Even on his current so called top form he is not worth anywhere that wage. Just wish he had stayed on his feet today. Personally I don't think we need him that badly since we will receive compensation on age if he sees his contract out and we still have the B----- money in the bank.
I'd have no issue with this, we can sell the back of the shirt, the shorts, whatever the **** we want if it males the team better. Simple as that.
Not sure why we have never considered selling the Stadium naming rights for a long time tbh Surely could get a fairly big company wanting their name on a premier league stadium...
