Luke Varney is due to complete his move from Derby County to Portsmouth in the next couple of days.

The Rams have reportedly accepted £750,000 bid from Pompey and the 28-year-old striker will move to the south coast shortly.

Varney spent last season on loan at Blackpool for their Premier League campaign and had admitted he would like to join the Seasiders on a permanent deal.

But it looks like Portsmouth have won the race for his signature unless there are any last minute problems.

Varney was a £1 million signing when he joined Derby from Charlton Athletic in January 2009.

He was signed by Paul Jewell, but immediately fell out of favour when new manager Nigel Clough took over.

Varney has scored one goals in 15 Rams appearances.
