Well, I'm sorry, but I didn't see Brad Guzan as better than Matt Duke. Mannone certainly was, when fit.

I can't see Basso being significantly cheaper than Duke either, after all Duke did have a relegation clause in his contract.

If we were bringing up a young lad (which we are supposed to be) as a number 2 understudy, I wouldn't have a problem with letting Duke go. But I don't see the point in this.

It's just AP and NP trying to completely eradicate everything to do with the old regime. Jealousy can be very powerful...

What a ridiculous thing to say.

Dawson, Barmby and Garcia all got offered new deals because AP and NP hadn't actually realised they were here from before then?

He's got(getting) rid of the players who weren't good enough, or were on too much money, no other reason.

Two other rumoured trialists are Danny Fearnehough(midfield) and Connor Branson(defender), both of Barnsley, they both seem to be kids(19).

hmmm Basso as a number 2 , but that still leaves us without a starter , Ive no idea what the Liverpool lads like but he will be inexperienced .
Could he turn into another Manonne ?? I'd love to hear if theres any effort in making a move for the Arsenal GK

If we're looking to sign a free keeper on a permanent and loan keeper from Liverpool, then we won't still be in for Mannone.

I think it will be someone like Basso at No.2, with Péter Gulácsi as No.1, he's played 35 league games so far, that's way more than Mannone.

Gulasci seems to be pretty highly-rated by the Reds. I'd guess they won't want to make it permanent.

    But then - a season is a long time.......:emoticon-0103-cool:

    If this goes through would this mean its the end of our signings for the summer?? as Pearson quoted 7 signings and we have;
    1.Dudgeon
    2.Evans
    3.Adebola
    4.Mckenna
    5.Hobbs
    6.Gulasci
    7.Basso

I wouldn't read too much into the '6 or 7 signings' quote, I think the actual number was always dependant on outgoings and anyway, he made those comments in an interview after we'd signed Evans and Dudgeon.

Duke is from the Pearson regime, the first one. So even if that lot was true, it wouldn't make sense.

When he said 6 or 7 signings, I don't think he expected anyone to hold him to it literally. If players start to move out, I'm certain there'll be more arrivals. I predicted 10 or 11 when I was last on WHCR's forum and I still think that'll be the number come the opening of the loan window.

I like the way the NP team takes players on loan before moving to sign them, it's an extended trial and keeps options open. It's not always because we can't afford them, it's because NP wants a good look first.

I very much doubt we'll bring back Mannone now, he's looking elsewhere clearly but I wouldn't rule out Guzan returning Villa have signed or are trying to sign a new keeper aren't they?

Not anymore alarmist bollocks, no. He's been a backup keeper at a Premier League club that had Wayne Hennessey and Marcus Hahnemann under contract. There's no shame in sitting behind that pair. He was a good goalie. How about we let the experts decide on him by actually working with him and then judge him if they sign him.
