There will never be another day like it, there will never be another ground like it. Long live the wonderful Valley #lovetheplace
I just wish we could see it a little bit more full. It's an amazing place, and when I've taken friends to it over the last 10 years they've always been amazed at how tidy a stadium it is. I know your thoughts on it, Nick - but will anyone be going to the museum?
One other thought - spare a few moments today to pay tribute to the 5,000 loyal fans who stuck with the Club for seven whole seasons at Selhurst Park, and then Upton Park. Younger fans - imagine that. Going 'away' every week for seven years. At Selhurst I used to stand in the Arthur Wait with a couple of proper Charlton people called Trevor & Fred. Trev travelled from Essex to watch our home games, Fred (who was in his 70s by then) from North London. Week in, week out, never missed a game. Both of them are no longer with us. RIP. It was people like them that kept this great Club alive.
No, will I bollocks. The way they have organised it will kill it off - ticket only & not on match days.
Wasn't aware you couldn't go on match days - that is a bit of a killer. I wonder what the reasoning behind that was? If that's the case I doubt I'll ever get down there being honest - which is a shame as I was curious about it.
It is to do with safety, and where they have located the 'museum' - which was basically a disused office. On match days there are too many logistical problems apparently. The whole thing will become a curiosity to be fought over by the usual handful of Preening Peacocks who cling on to CAFC like an anal wart. Just look at who turned up at the opening last week.
I didn't even know the museum was open, but I shall probably head over next week and take a look. I'll report my findings soon after. Just before that wonderful day in 1992, I visited The Valley with my folks. We wandered in through the open gates next to the changing rooms and I managed to pluck some grass from a lawn mower, which I still have wrapped in tissue to this very day (the grass, not the mower!). Today is always a special day, and for the last nine years it has been double-edged with joy, for December 5th is my wedding anniversary.
Happy Wedding anniversary, Ponders Was the date selected by chance, or was it a stand out in your head?
I lost my virginity to some girl on 19th March 1984. Nothing to do with the Valley or CAFC but I do like telling everyone. What makes it even sweeter her dad was a Spurs fan and was asleep in the next room and I cleaned myself off with his spurs shirt.
Cheers, Super C. We always wanted a December wedding and when the 5th became available we just had to do it. I got married wearing a Charlton tie; I'd like to post a photo, but I had a ponytail at the time and the shame is just too much to bear. My wife is actually a Northampton girl, but she is now a passionate Addick and that's another reason to love her so dearly.
I'm afraid that will no longer be possible. Don't worry, Ponders - I once tried my hand at the Beckham look and now have a gap of 2 years in my photo albums due to the shame.
Ha! Ponytails appear to stem from a long term lapse in judgement and can only be remedied by abstaining from alcohol. It's almost five years dry (and scalped) for me. Jonno is most upset and has created a thread on GC. You are quite the Scrooge, Super C.
I'm sorry about it - the first few days in to the trial period I was optimistic. Ultimately, the correspondence through private messages stopped, and with that my requests fell on deaths ears. Being new to management in my professional life - I've realised you can't make everyone happy all the time. It's a shame, but enough was done to try and prevent it. Now back to the ponytail talk
Hello all, return of the Plumb. Such great memories of twenty two years ago, walking down Floyd Road. Waiting outside until they opened the gates, filling up when the teams came out. When Colin Walsh slotted the ball home, i filled up again. The atmosphere from 8337 fans was just electric, it is a day i shall never forget.
