I see today that Liverpool are rumoured to be going for Norwich's Nathan Redmond in January. If that's the case, does that make it less likely that they'll make a move for our Pat Roberts as well? It's best to take all of these things with a large pinch of salt until something actually happens, but I'm more than happy to clutch at that particular straw in the meantime.
I read that they intend on spending 47 million in January. I think Rodgers hasgot other things on his mind at the moment than PR, hoping anyway.
If the money is burning a hole in their pocked, I suppose we'd listen to offers for Fotheringham. He could do a job for them at the moment (admittedly, it would probably be a job driving the team bus, but that's still a job.)
Pat Roberts would only ever be a signing for the long term at Liverpool and I suspect their immediate intentions would be simply to get in before any other of the 'big boys'. And not good for Pat, even if he's loaned back. Wilfred Zaha comes to mind.
I understand why a player would want to go to Liverpool so no hard feelings for Pat. Get him back on loan, no thanks...
Think PR will be with us a bit longer, he's still got to get into our first team! I could see LVC attracting some interest this window or next.
According to the local paper we plan to bring back Alex Kacaniklic and Ryan Tunnicliffe from their loan deals and save ourelves money in the January transfer window. ”Winger Alex Kacaniklic went to FC Copenhagen just after signing a contract extension with the Whites in the summer. The 23-year-old's deal keeps him at the Championship club until June 2016, and manager Kit Symons wants to make use of the Sweden international’s Championship experience gleaned ironically at Watford, tonight’s opponents, and Burnley. Ryan Tunnicliffe also got a chance at Blackburn Rovers with a summer switch where he’s featured 12 times so far. The manager now thinks he can reap the benefits of the pair's recent past as well as avoid the pitfalls of gambling in the transfer market. He explained: “Yeah, bringing them back would certainly be a possibility. Those are two players who are Fulham players with Championship experience. I’m very reticent to bring anyone into the club. I’m 100 per cent sure they’re character wise and ability wise what we need. Ryan and Alex are two players I know very well.” Source: http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/spor...ham-set-recall-kacaniklic-tunnicliffe-8231657
I don't doubt his ability, but if he's an attacking midfielder (which is what Wikipedia says), he's not scratching where we itch. Holding midfielders, preferably experienced without being geriatric: yes; full-backs: hell, yes; reliable back-up keeper able to play in shorts rather than pyjamas: yes indeed. Attacking midfielders? No thanks. We've got them in spades.
It's a random thought without any foundation in rumour, but how would you guys feel about a bid for Darren Pratley? I think he's out of contract in the summer, so he might be available for a small fee. He's an experienced midfielder who could share the load with Parker and (to be honest it's a main reason why I was thinking about him) he's a product of our youth system. Full backs are obviously the priority, but I think a solid veteran central midfielder would be very useful.
Do we though, Ros? We've integrated LVC this year and rushed Hyndman to the first team. Do we have better youth players ready, or are they currently gaining the experience that players like LVC and Hyndman were gaining last year? We also have Tunnicliffe in the first team squad but, along with Parker, that is only four central midfielders whilst we've been frequently playing three. I'd rather have an experienced player like Pratley than an inexperienced youth player from a big club like Fofana, who will never stay here.
Tunnicliffe's a midfielder isn't he? Grimmer has played really well. Stafyliydis has been good. When you say full backs do you mean centre backs?
Sorry Craving, I was talking about central midfielders. I was saying that although I think a full back is a priority (although I think Grimmer has somewhat addressed that), it should not preclude signing a decent central midfielder.
