is there anway to make the kop bigger and steeper, like in the Westfalenstadion? to get the capacity above 60k? I guess it's difficult with the road there. Also the centenary stand is probably a no too as there are houses just behind the car park there.

With all of those extra seats added, some of you armchair ****ers should be able to get to a game more than once a decade <whistle>

No, city have already started their expansion.

One end is currently under construction and due to be finished for the start of next season along with 3 extra rows around the pitch. The other end will start as soon as the first one is done and their owners don't piss about when it comes to construction.

They will already be at 61K when the the new main stand at Anfield is finished.

There's outline planning permission to extend the Anny Road but no plans yet in place to start on a second phase, so there is scope to expand further.

    you sure jb?

i always thought we was maximizing what we could do now, that's why there was a lot of argument for the starting again with a new stadium as more scope for expansion.

According to Ayre there's scope for further expansion.

''Ayre told there ECHO in an exclusive interview today [4th Dec.] : ‘We’ve pressed the go button.

“Never mind a spade being in the ground in 60 days, we’ll have one in there within six days now.”

He described the news as ‘massive’ for Liverpool Football Club as it bids to up its capacity to just short of 60,00 over time, with the new stand adding an extra 8,500 seats to begin with. That takes Anfield’s capacity to 54,000 plus.

Further plans to rebuild or extend the Anfield Road stand are being considered and progressed but no decisions on that potential second phase have yet been taken and only outline – or in-principle - planning permission for that exists.''

  13. I think it just means the next phase in addition to this one (the extra 8,500 seats taking the stadium to 54k)

    Yes it is

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-30327242

When the first lot of Shermans planned SP there was a restriction on anything beyond 60k as that was deemed to be the limit of the current transport infrastructure, so to go beyond it would require massive infrastructure development.

  16. Cheers JB <ok>

Having read that though, I think the title is a typical journo serialisation headline though. Basically based on this one bit:

I think that is sensible from Ayre. He doesn't want to rule it out but also knows its unlikely to happen any time soon so plays safe.

Did you notice this at the end of that link -

''Away from the stadium issue, Liverpool have sent striker Daniel Sturridge to train in Los Angeles for two weeks to help in his rehabilitation from a thigh injury.''

I think you're right but it comes back to there is scope there to extend beyond the 60K which is what people were questioning.

There currently are no plans drawn up to expand beyond the 2nd phase of the current proposed expansion which is the Anfield Road stand, so therefore there's currently no scope at all. 59k is the scope of the current plans.
