Just been looking at some of the reports from the newspapers about there predictions for the new season and seen one of them had us finishing 6th ahead of the Spuds in 7th. This is not the reason I am excited for the new season as that is an opinion but for the fact of the quality of players we are bringing in and as Brucie said yesterday hopefully there is more to come. A few more in and we will be in great shape going into the new season Any improvement in the league table will be good enough for me with hopefully a decent cup run Ha'Way the Lads!!
6th?? Nice thought mind, really nice thought. I fancy we can push for 8th, i'm pinning my hopes on a decent cup run.
Agreed. We have a squad as good as any other below the top 7 which appears to be staying put for the foreseeable future. I'd be over the moon with 8th and a cup run! Also poolie are there any links to these newspaper predictions?
Good read 6th is generous but hopefully we can at least be sniffing around that sort of area. Again, 8th would be quality. In terms of the other teams I think he's been harsh on Villa and Everton while I have a sneaky feeling Man City could potentially win it next year!! It's too early to make total judgement on any team but still interesting to think about now. Roll on August!
Good read Poolie. I'm sure many will disagree but some of us will always live in eternal hope that we can ride high & not live in fear another relegation nightmare.
Not just our position, but villa way down there, this won't happen imo. Mags in 12th, about right. Mind i'm hoping for 8-9th, so anything else is a Brucie bonus.
So we are going to finish 6th. That's spoils the whole season knowing where we will end up. Like watching a game when you already know the result. We may as well go and watch the games in the pub!!!
I think 6th and above Spurs is being a tad optimistic, but like you, I'm really excited regarding the start of the season: bring it on...
8th place, and avoiding another injury crisis (and so avoiding the nail biting) will do me. Would be good not to drop below 10th spot during the entire season - a bit of consistency would be nice.
got evry right to feel optimistic with the signings we've made but it all comes down to being able to make something out of all the lego bricks we've got Anywhere above 10th and i for one will be happy
Interesting but, as has been stated, cloud cuckoo land. Having us 1 place behind Arsenal - as much as I'd love to se it, won't happen. Top 8 and a good cup run would keep most of us happy (and no mid season wobble)!
I get a strange feeling of Deja Vu - weren't we all this optimistic last year ?! Hoping for the best but as this is SAFC I fear we'll be wondering come April where it all went wrong ! Now come on Bruce - prove me wrong and really surprise me !!
Just what I was thinking as I read the comments. Guess it comes with the territory but every year I am always sure this year will be different. I'm like Del Boy "this time next year we will be millionaires!" Like Marcus I too would settle for a cup run (winning would be a dream) and finishing 8th or higher with no mid season slump. This would show we are making progress towards being one of the 'best of the rest'.
I'm a born optimist, but also realistic enough to know that it would be a minor miricle to finish in the top six. I'm just looking for improved performances from last season: nothing more, nothing less.
Will gladly take a trip too wembley and 10th, or even making it past the third round of the cups would be a start for me...
My opinion is: PL league 1: Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City League 2 Liverpool, Spurs, Us, Everton, Villa, Fulham, Stoke, Bolton, Newcastle, Blackburn, West Brom League 3 Wigan, Swansea, QPR, Norwich, Wolves There is always a surprise package in the PL - I don;t think Liverpool are as good as all of the pundits are making them out to be. henderson and Carroll are, as yet, not really proven to that massive an extent - the odd half season does not make a Premier League player and I think they will be very lucky to finish in the top 4, let alone above spurs as well. I think we are in the same sort of position (but a couple of places down maybe) but can see us competing in the top half quite well next season as long as we don't experience the same sorts of injuries!! All about opinions though
If the transfer window closed tomorrow we could have a real crack at 6th/7th as the other teams have signed nobody but it doesn't so its academic, 8th would be good progress for me, 7th great season, 6th over the moon but fantasy land I am afraid at the moment. I really do think however that Villa are in real trouble if another couple of players go, they are in turmoil and a bad start will see the hatchets out for McLeish, hell, might be out with a really good start
