Don't know Anfield all that well, but that pic makes it look like there will be a new row of them under the new tier. And this pic makes it look like you may be doing something like Arsenal, and sticking a whole executive tier in the middle of things.

It'll certainly bring in the money, but risks sucking all the atmosphere right out like it does at the Emirates.

True, but if it costs you another £120 million to expand the stadium, then it would take the best part of 17 years to pay back the money you've sunk into it.

Not exactly true. The capacity is increasing by 13,300 - 3,500 of which will be hospitality, so not half of the new capacity.

Half the seats in one of the stands then.

I'd still be willing to bet that those hospitality seats will bring in twice as much money as the remaining 10,000 regular seats, and will be expected to fund most of the cost of the expansion.

    Not at all.

''Liverpool expect to generate an extra £20m per season from the new main stand at Anfield and will fund the £114m cost of the project with an interest-free loan from Fenway Sports Group, the club’s owners.

Liverpool are spending £75m on the construction of the stand but the overall cost, including the acquisition of land, will be around £114m, an additional £39m. The interest-free loan provided from FSG’s cash reserves is scheduled to be repaid over the relatively short timeframe of five to five-and-a-half years.''

Don't go expecting any big spending in the transfer market in the next few years then <ok>

A 10 seater exec box costs about £5,000 per game, so yes they bring in more than the rest of the stadium.

  10. I was speaking truthfully but, maybe <whistle> <laugh>

Also, we'd still play in red under the same name and at the same venue, the stadium would just have a different public name. No big deal IMO, especially if the extra dough can help us buy all the best average British player around :)

  11. Not reported, the owners or their representatives have said that will be the case. It'll still hold 59k though.

  12. But is it "totally" different...? If so why...? What's in a name...?

It won't happen because the vast majority wouldn't let it and would be a huge backlash (see Newcastle when tried to rename to Sports Direct Arena).

Would you change your kids name if someone said I'll give you £50? Probably not (unless you say yes to be a dick)
Would you name your new child they're suggested name if they said they'd give you £50? Quite possibly.

  15. Bit like Arsenal. They never spent claiming Arsene had the money but choose not to. In reality, they were paying for the stadium and once confirmation had reached that it had been paid for that splashed £40m on Ozil and £30m on Sanchez!

  16. More fool our fans then.

For £50, no. For a very comfortable life and future? Sure. Perspective!

I don't see the difference between renaming a existing stadium to naming a new build, you're still selling out whichever way you go. The latter way see's that sell out take 100% effect. The former also see's it in the public eye, everyone would still call it Anfield really. I still called Man City's stadium Eastlands!!!

Did it hurt when your Mrs (nm I assume) gave birth to Anfield?

I wouldnt like to rename Anfield and I wouldnt like to relocate either. No bother in naming a stand to the highest bidder though

Remember the move [after H&G] by a fan group to buy the club, maybe the same group would put up the money to keep the name Anfield if it ever came to that.
