Don't get the Kane hate HIAG, His ****ing class, your best player again tonight and arguably apart from Eriksen in a few games he has been your best player in every game he's played. Boy has real ****ing talent and is going to be great
Clinical is exactly what's been missing for some time now. Percentages of territory and possession ultimately mean nothing if you, firstly don't have the creativity to capitalise on them, and secondly make stupid mistakes defensively as well.
We could have gone 0-2 up in the first 10 minutes which gives me hope. Now I'll hope for a good win against Palace as they are struggling.
I would have thought Soldado was ready to go after his goal at the weekend,so they make him substitute!....while Didi Die Doh gets a give away. I would say one was happy and they other ticked off.
I thought Bobby should have started too. Now Harry has only scored one in five since that howler against Asteras, is anybody else concerned?
The latter has been huge for us the last couple of seasons. I think we conceded more goals due to individual error last season than any other Prem side and that trend apparently hasn't entirely been bucked yet. Those cheap goals are such a sucker punch for confidence too even for the ones who aren't making the errors, and that can impact on the clinical side of our game too. If Kane gets better contact on his early header and it goes in, if Lloris gets a better contact on that near-post first goal...we shouldn't play 'what if?' football in hindsight but it illustrates that fine margins win games like tonight's. Chelsea can deal with those fine margins because they are fantastically well drilled in organisation and defence and can spend tons of cash on the best players. We can't always splash the cash so we need to rely on the former but it takes time, as unpopular as that adage will be with some on this board.
Harry Redknapp made a splash instantly which told me we'd be alright with him but with Poch.....................I'm a bit at a loss to say what.
I agree to an extent. However, I think it's fanciful to put all those little things down to bad luck. Maybe in one game, yes. But repeatedly, No! The simple facts for me are, we lack midfield creativity, are vulnerable defensively, and currently do not have a reliable, clinical finisher. Maybe Kane will prove to be the answer to the latter, I remain to be convinced, however.
I don't think that Kane's capable of playing his best in the lone striker role, not at the moment anyway. He added to our midfield against Everton, as he repeatedly closed down their deepest midfielder at any time and put an extra body in there, then got forward and supported Soldado. I can understand that Pochettino may have felt that Eriksen playing on the left would've left Davies exposed against Chelsea, but I've no idea why he thought Lamela would help. I'm at a loss as to why Paulinho's cemented a place from the bench at the moment, as well.
I'm not sure that anybody would flourish as a lone striker in that side. Who is going to supply them with goal scoring opportunities? Lennon looks like the only one capable of turning a defence, currently.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Adebayor ends up at Chelsea because he is a player who could work for Mourinho." - Dim Sherwood Oh please oh please oh please oh please...
Comments from Mourinho: "We played against a very good team and they showed that during some periods in the game. They started better than us and should have scored before us, but after our first goal our team became more stable and confident and we controlled the game. I'm really happy with the points, performance and spirit of the players. It's too heavy a result, though, for Tottenham." Think that's fair. We started excellently and in the second half it was a bit like against Liverpool, 8 men not leaving their own half for long periods and just trying to pick us off with pace on the counter as we commit more and more forward. Not sure who got MOTM but I thought Oscar was very good. Anyway, Palace up next and a chance to put this behind us and get our season going again.
Yes Yid, let's put this behind us now, instanter because we can't undo what's happened and look forward.
An improvement of sorts after last season's 0-4 defeat at Chelsea. Bentaleb was our best player tonight. We're still on exactly the same points amassed from the identical games played last season.
Despite the result I like the look of this team still. The defence looks much better and there is good movement. I would not be at all surprised to see us have a decent second half to the season.
I liked it for 15 mins but after that we created so little . I suppose a defence that's let 3 in must be improving. Considering our limitations it was a decent performance .
Agree with the positive comments but too many negative ones. Normally I am depressed after a defeat(especially those three stupid home defeats this season) BUT this was Chelsea who are far superior to anyone this season. We didn't expect a win and asked for a decent performance which we got. yes there were some errors which against other teams we might have got away with them but not Chelsea. Was surprised that Poch picked 10 of the same players as Sunday because they would have gained confidence on Sunday and today some of it would have been taken away as well as the fact they needed a rest. I just hope we can play again like we can and did against Everton.
I'm not going to excuse the rest of that first half but that Chelsea defence has kept better sides than us at bay by sitting deep and in numbers. They're well drilled and suited to it. I think what cost us was a lack of experience and confidence in the second half. Our counter was totally taken out by the numbers they kept back, everytime it fell to Kane or anyone else in a good position they were quickly surrounded by 3 or 4 players and either crowded out or fouled. When we did get it into a decent position the players just hesitated a bit, we could've done with them being a bit more single minded in what they were doing but too often players like Eriksen, Chadli and Lamela seemed too cautious and reluctant to take the initiative.
