Just banter, Vetch, just banter. That's why I put a <laugh> after it.

    Of course not.

OK, it's clear you're not going to recognise any interim achievements, so we'll re-visit it at the end of May 2015 and see what has transpired.

That's O.K. aswan,I don't have any real problem with you. I must have missed the smiley.

Re-visit at end of season is a good idea, and then all will be revealed.
However, since we are already out of the League Cup,Laudrup's performance cannot now be equalled.
We will have to win the F.A Cup for Laudrup's season to be eclipsed, assuming a top half finish of course.
Good luck with that,I'm not risking any money on it happening.

I really don't like this thread. It was created with mischief in mind.
No similar threads were ever created for previous Manager's,or at least I can't remember any.

Success should measured over the season and where we finish .Wigan won the FA cup and were demoted & that to me is a failure ,every game at PL level is a cup final and therefore if we finish the highest we have to date than that has to be measured as more successful that Laudrup's tenure imo .Monk has come in as a rookie Manager who's turned things around and is getting results so it'll be interesting to see how far he can take us

Monk is improving and to date is doing as well as last season in games where we are playing teams in equivalent positions.
However, what has he 'turned around'?

Monk's doing well so far. I think he needs to reassess some players - Shelvey for one - and perhaps revise whatever model of play he was hoping to achieve with Shelvey in the CM role. I think he has better options - we've seen them against Arsenal, City and last night against QPR - Carroll or Leon alongside Ki. Compare to Palace and other matches with Shelvey on board - Monk has to see the difference in the way we play.

I think Roof makes a good point - Shelvey in the #10 role cuts out his long balls and turns them into shots. However, he's not as good as Sig in that role, which makes Shelvey a final 15 minute sub.

Wherever we finish this season it's going to be a transitional and consolidating season in many respects - in terms of the shape and style, in terms of cultivating replacements for Rangel, Leon and Ash for the near or longer term, finding an effective sub for Bony, keeping Bony, finding a better alternative at left back. And, most importantly for Monk from player to manager / coach - it's a huge transition in and of itself.

Surprisingly , Monk is doing as well as Laudrup on most levels , only one got **** on by ""Handshake Huw"" though .While most like to turn everything into a Monk vs Laudrup thing , I cant and will never get past what a backstabbing coward Jenkins was with Laudrup ...

The Swansea way won the easiest league cup final in history not laudrup, every sensible knowledgeable supporter knows that...Monk had to take over from the useless git to save the club from relegation and that is the most important achievement than anything so far to date...<ok>

what was jinx suppose to do when he could not get useless git to attend a board meeting to let him know he was sacked ??? We could not hang around for his convenience we had a club to run, Hence the only way left when numerous Phone calls failed to get him was an e-mail to tell him his services were no longer required and we need to move on....So where by is it backstabbing useless git ????

Our defence, beating the bigger teams, turning our team into a side thy can beat every team in the league if we are at our best. Built a top quality squad with at least 2 top players in every position, LB aside, haven't been outside the top 10 all season.
He's turned around a lot of things and deserves a hell of a lot of credit. His subs were spot on too last night, seems to learning and getting them right now.

There is no comparison between the two managers. we are a lot healthier today sitting pretty in the top half than we were just 2 points off relegation when useless was manager. you cannot compare the two...<ok>

He's turned us back into a "team" perhaps he's not quite there yet overall in terms of managerial nous but I'm prepared to give him time and more importantly so's the Board .He's brought in quality replacements and has stiffened the defence and made us harder to beat .Naive in parts but savvy in some with the players wanting to play for him ,other than that not much .I wasn't happy with the way the Club treated Laudrup and i still respect the guy for what he's done but he's gone and imo he's not missed either.

I wouldn't disagree in the main part but with a fully fit squad I think our back four was as good, if not better (I prefer Ben to Taylor) than last season.
Where I think the defence has improved is in signing Fabianski. Last season there was always a call from a significant group to play Tremmell as first choice over Vorm but not so this year.

Turning us back into a team has been partly down to Monk, partly to avoiding injuries and partly not having to juggle players around the Europa Cup (I still believe that ranks a very close second to promotion as the best experience as a Swans fan since the Toshack days).

I don't like our backs to the wall defending once a goal up and I don't like the persistent long ball game replay when Jonjo is given free reign. I also don't like fans taking every opportunity to dismiss Laudrup as some sort of village idiot - disrespectful and untrue. Personal preferences.

This season I would say we are more solid, I can't see this team putting in the performances we saw away to Valencia or Naopli but it is picking up points and some play has been outstanding.

It's all down to Monk, as he kicked all those who wouldn't play ball (pardon the pun) out and replaced them with better players, and dare I say it, imo, hungrier players. How often did we see Pablo with the desire to attack with the ball like Montero?

Each of us has our own take - some would point to the stories that who ever was said to be in trouble on the training ground Monk was always there as he was under Sousa. It could be said that you have a lot to prove if you only work with people you like and sack the anyone who doesn't toe the line. Of course, we only have gossip that there was unease in the camp.
I take your point about Pablo, but there again he was not brought in to play that way and Montero who was (a target in 2012/13 incidentally) is still proving himself - after a season the comparison may be better made, also when he starts getting a goal or two. I think Montero is a fantastic prospect and must be a nightmare for defenders. Siggy is definitely better than an injured Michu and could come close to getting the 20 goals achieved by the Spaniard when fit. Ki has really surprised me by being so good in a position he had said he didn't want to play - defensive midfield; certainly as effective as deGuzman and could well match the Dutch international's goal tally.
