Only one for me today on what is a pretty poor days racing, my selection runs in the 3.00 Brighton BUXTON has course and distance winning form which is a good start point, added to this he drops back to Class 5 company and runs off the same mark as he did LTO in this grade, where he was beaten by a head by MANDHOOMA over C&D, who he meets today on 3lb better terms and for me is a solid EW bet at odds of 7/1.
Strange that. Sometimes I put up a selection and all of a sudden I see you've napped it before my post.
The first race of the afternoon from Newton Abbot fascinates me and for me Verde Goodwood is a bet. The key here is that the horse gets more of a stamina test here and the faster ground shouldn't bother her too much. Our Guardian Angel is the main danger, one that I think could run well, but the horse finishes placed far too often and loses races that it should win. The only other horse that looks likely to figure is the top one who carries a penalty for winning a dreadful race. I have backed Verde Goodwood and also the reverse forecast with Our Guardian Angel (who should finish well running into 2nd hopefully)
Nass: Nice 'arrers' mate, i backed Baldings last 2 after going off Night Carnation and backing Margot Did despite not having a chance due to the draw Halicarnassus made my day but the ride of Jimmy Fortune on Chibertas King was awful despite winning I thought he had blown it til he got his 2nd wind! You must have had a great day mate, shame about Vita Nova (pure unlucky with the saddle) but the retort from Tom Queally was priceless 'A blind man could see the saddle slipped' awesome, Thommo is dreadful IMO. Well have opted for a trixie and EW treble on: 300 Bri: My Learned Friend (6s)is a CD winner over this tricky course and the yard is firing very well indeed. 740 Wi: Caledonian Princess (10s) looks a nice EW. Now trained by Jo Hughes who turned out their first winner last week with their 1st runner! Holland was aboard then and is again today, Paul Blockley used to train this one so will know all about it. If the money comes late it will go very well, they piled into last weeks winner and it won cosily. 810 Wi: Ride the Wind as Chris Wall likes to win this race but as stated above is a very tricky race.
The race on Saturday was awesome, SYT always looked like picking up Workforce but over 1 1/2m i think WF will win easily. Cannot see Sir Michael running him on firm ground again but was very pleased for Heffernan, deserved that winner and looked good in the saddle.
Cyc: Not 100% positive but i think i read somewhere that they have retired Halicarnassus mate! Bowman owed me that after his unlucky ride on Montaff the week before
Nass: As i have been away have you got many if any ante post bets for next years Festival? How did you get on this year?
which festival? Not backed anything antepost (only one horse interests me antepost at the minute and thats for the Nunthorpe) If you are talking Cheltenham I finished up again which is amazing really given how competitive it is.
Backed My Learned Friend in the 3.00 Yard in great form (8 winners) and the horse loves this course and distance and ran a good race from poor position at Lingfield
Nass: There is only one festival the rest are supporting acts mate! I had a great start with Al Ferof, managed to find that one that won the amateurs race Zakinsky or sumat similar (where Twisters son jumped off 2 out) took 50s in the morning so that did me well. Highlight was Long Run, thought that race was very good although lost a good few quid place money on What A friend - if ever a horse was not meant to pass Kauto or Denman that was it Time 4 Rupert was very disappointing although apparently there was something amiss! Time will tell. Cross Kennon won me loads in the specials markets without Big Bucks and Pipes grey horse. Very brave little horse indeed. Stuck to my guns and backed Sizing Europe, what a superb price and also the one from Mullins that Ruby got there right on the line!! Had 16s EW to £40 quid. Had fair share of losers of course but still paid for the family holiday this year (daughters have chosen Tenerife!!) and got a couple of nice bets in the bank. 6s about Long Run for the Gold Cup, apparently only 60 people got the 6s, i wanted £100 but was told £50 was the maximum! Zarkander for the CH but don't even think in hidsight it will turn up. One horse i am waiting for is Group Therapy, don't give up on this sprinter, just needs to be dropped to Group 2 or 3 and will 'hose up' mate!
I didn't ask you about your festival. I think of Glorious Goodwood as the festival, I can't wait to see Hoof It win the Stewards Cup!
