I think I've figured it ... he's that banjo-playing porch-dweller from Deliverance. Ace!! Can I have an autograph? Pretty please?
I think your making light of my ailment ALF, you don't know how it feels though. Damn you ALF HOOKER, you bugger you. There...
One thing about history is that its rewritten all the time - History doesn't stand still conveniently for you to wallow in glory days . For me Hull City is the biggest club out there , but i accept that to most outside the clubs pull it isn't . Aa a fan a happy consequence of this is ten fold we dont expect victory every week , we dont get in a huff when we fall to 7th in the league , fans dont turn their back on the game in a sulk we dont look down on teams currently in lower leagues , we are still in touch with those clubs , and i dont think we treat our opposition with disrespect, our manager gets a 90% approval rating on here , what did Pardew get when in our position ?
Whilst I agreed with your post for the most part, this bit is completely wrong. Have you been on here recently during a matchday?
Is he a Leeds Utd fan? If so he might like to talk about the season when, the biggest city in Britain with one team, had attendances regularly below 20k and didn't open one stand FOR THE WHOLE SEASON. He then might also like to talk about them being the worst supported team in the whole of the UK per head of population. He might, but I doubt it.
We could then talk further about attendance per head of population. With our average of, oh say 23k from a population of 240,000, that works out around 9.6%. So for Leeds Utd to have a similar percentage of fans attending from the city they would need to average crowds of 72,000. Again though, I dont think he will want to talk about that....
this is clearly somebody who, supports a ***** team themselves such as derby, leeds, forest, and they are finding it hard to come to terms with the 21st century. times have moved on mate, get used to it. Come on Hull!!
Think the prize for worst supported most years goes to Rotherham. Over 250,000 live there. It will probably alternate between the two. There have been a few seasons in our history when we were possibly hovering around having that unwanted title.
I always come out with that one. Isn't strictly accurate because if Hull included the same outlying areas as Leeds our population would be a lot higher. Still, who cares when you can have a pop at Leeds? Best not to do this comparison with Sunderland, Burnley, Middlesbrough, Derby and quite a few others especially when some of those clubs are in the PL on a level basis. No one will beat Lens in France, with a population of 36,000 they often get crowds of 40,000.
If you're doing that then include Wakefield, the largest city in Europe without a professional football team and within 10 miles of Leeds. And Bradford is nearer to Leeds than Beverley is to Hull. Norwich is our best in my eyes, they get 1 fifth of their city population attending even in the 3rd tier.
That's the same as moving City to Melton and then claiming that we got an attendance of 25,000 from a population of 1,700.
Except that there isn't a city of 250,000'a few miles away. In fact the whole surrounding area covering quite a distance from Lens only has a population of about 250,000 of which Lens is the largest. So your comparison is inaccurate.
Okay, 24,117 if you want to be specific, though I expect them to be back up to 25,000 next season once the pricing has been revised.
I know nothing about the area, I was just going from wiki - Lens belongs to the intercommunality of Lens-Liévin, which consists of 36 communes, with a total population of 250,000. Lens, along with Douai, forms the metropolitan area of Douai-Lens, whose population at the 1999 census was 552,682.
