After a huge wave of emotion from Gasheads asking if Rovers can help, the club have decided they would like to help Fundraise for Oskar Pycroft the young City lad who needs an operation in the USA to have any chance of walking. Oskar is 6 and has cerebral palsy. There is a surgery called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) which can help improve the quality of his life and is his only chance of being able to walk. The NHS have brought to Bristol an expert in this operation but have deemed that Oskar doesnt meet their strict criteria!! This now means that Oskar's only hope is to raise £70,000 to pay to go to Saint Louis Children's Hospital in Missouri USA. Can we help? There will be a bucket collection at the New Years Day Clash with Torquay Utd and a Christmas Quiz Night at The Mem on Tuesday 16th December 730pm We will be looking for some volunteers to help with the buckets on 1st January so if you can help, please let us know. On behalf of lots of Gasheads i would like to offer my sincere thanks to Bristol Rovers FC and supporters who are willing to offer their time and facilities to make this happen especially Brian Seymour-Smith who has acted really quickly to ensure this happens. You can donate to Oskars Appeal here: Oscars Just Giving Page The total so far raised both online and through an incredible bucket collection at Ashton Gate last weekend is well over £20,000 already.
It brings back memories of when they used to walk around the ground at half time with a large board with a bullseye painted on it. The crowd threw coins at the board which collected them in a tray at the bottom.
Like I said elsewhere..................... I know Oskar. He's a wonderful lad who manages to stay upbeat and positive. He's also a HUGE City fan, but he has a great sense of fun and can take a wind-up when City falter. He's also very aware of where we are in the pyramid!! I'd encourage anyone to help in any way they can. There's no guarantee that this surgery will be successful and, as others have said, there are similar cases which have not had the same publicity. But if he was your lad.......................................
Cheers SMH. Hope to have further details up tomorrow of our efforts. BTW, Our FFS Club had a collection in hospitality Saturday and amongst us we collected £109 which was very good imo.
