The football genius strikes again with a gem like this, i know he's backing his player but i could name 5-10 players that are better than Gerrard past or present. Zola, Giggs, Bergkamp, Henry, Cantona, Beckham etc, just to name a few.
Beckham was a great pro and a very good player but not in Gerrard's league and leaving him out would have made a stronger statement as the other players you meantioned were top class. But for BRod to state Gerrard is the best premier league player ever is pretty laughable. He's arguably behind Scholes and Lampard as a central midfielder for a start before you even get on to Keane and Viera. Then put in the genius types mentioned by Matth (less Beckham) and it doesn't hold much water.
Whilst I don't think he was the best, Giggs would have a great shout for number of titles won, how long he performed over etc. For me though, Ronaldo for 3 years was something I've not seen before, an absolutely beast. Then closely followed by Zaha.
I've not seen the quote but if it's true he's a complete fcking idiot. Didn't he say something similar last season? Gerrard as a footballer and midfielder at his peak was absolute quality. By saying something as stupid as this, all Rodgers does is have fans putting Gerrard down. Gerrard himself must have his head in hands thinking "Shut the fck up you pr1ck. If you want to give me a new contract, gimme it but don't patronise me you fcking tard."
IMO Rodgers is so wrong.... how can he be the best of something he has never won FFS. he maybe the best Liverpool PL player ever, but as Liverpool have never won the PL, then ALL their players would rate behind players from ManUtd, Arsenal, Chelsea, and of recent form Man City.
Gerrard would not make the top 20 of premiership players, thats a given. But I doubt he would make the top 10 of Liverpool players. Dogleash, Souness, Hansen, Mcdermott, Beardsley, Rush all won more and were far better players. Add to that the tough guys like Tommy Smith,and Jimmy Case and Stevie me wouldnt get a look in
Utter nonsense, individual players talent and the team they are in is relevant. Stick a young on form Cantona in the Rochdale side and they'll still win f** all. Does that make him a bad player? There's bound to be differences of opinion as to where he ranks based on some sensible thinking and of course fans biased opinion but to start suggesting he's not in a top ten sound far fetched to me so lets get some lists going.
Add that comment to my comment about nonsense, that's complete biased opinion and a Utd fan just sticking his head in the sand and refusing to allow football knowledge and common sense to prevail. I'll be honest enough and admit if a Utd player is good but it looks like you will not be as honest.
