Think I've made my feelings on christmas clear in a previous rant, albeit the imaginary christmas that has never actually existed that the corporations and ad execs brainwash everyone to buy into. I'm curious what Christmas represents to all of you?? Are any of you actually Christians?? If not then what relevance does Christmas have in your lives other than the dreamed up affair - which is not actually Christmas - and purely about creating a time of year piggybacking on that original celebration and based on the economy and transactions, getting the money from your bank account into someone elses and also maybe a time for you to live in excess guilt free??

I don't have religion so for me the end of December is all about winter and the days starting to get longer again, hence I do put some lights up around the place and some wintery decorations as well, but nothing to do with santa claus, elves, reindeer or ****ing coca cola.

  13. I'm not religious at all and totally agree that people just take part because of the presents and because its seen as the normal thing to do nowadays. I always say I don't want anything when people ask me what I'd like. Simple reason, if they don't buy me anything I don't have to return the favour.

Doesn't help that like a lot of people, I have bad memories at Christmas time too.

I celebrate the winter solstice (shortest day) and look forward to the increase in light.I loathe the rampant consumerism of Christmas

    not christian.

have young kids, and when you do, you have to make an effort for their sakes( well until they are old enough to know better and ask for money lol)

also you are a young lad early 20's i think ish?, and looks like xmas don't mean much to you, but what you going to do if your new missus is into all that ****e?

we all know on here xmas is a big ****ing con and a marketing con of the highest order, but a lot are parents and grandparents on here so have to try and make an effort.

I take your point but think it's sad that everyone just rolls along with it because it's the done thing. But how can you not when as a parent there must be huge pressure on you to make it a good time for your kids so it doesn't look like you're abusing them or something. That for me is still a very pathetic condemnation of our society, that we base this huge chunk of the year on buy buy buy for our kids and relatives and if they don't get it they're upset.

As for the missus, I just do what I do, if the current missus don't like that she can do one. Treat em mean, keep em keen. It generally works. <ok><laugh>

  20. I quite liked Christmas then. I still didn't like actual Christmas, just the fact that we got time off work for a two week piss up :)
