Check here to fins out the current status of arsenal fans regarding wenger. Real time status: Wenger in.
PHP: I agree with Matth here, I think Arsenal fans want to be careful what they wish for. Yes Wenger has his limitations with tactics, however he is very good at building sides, and he's an outstanding coach who's been responsible for developing so many top players over the years. Wenger keeps everything ticking over nicely at Arsenal, to a lesser extent than SAF did for us, but he still keeps them in the CL and in the top 4 every year. If Wenger was to go I could see the wheels coming off Arsenal completely. And unlike us they probably don't have the ammunition to start throwing millions at the problem until it goes away. Arsenal fans really want to be careful as things will likely get a whole lot worse if Wenger goes
Depends on your level of ambition. He guarantees top four, although even that will change this year, but he also guarantees they've no chance of winning the league and no chance of winning the champions league, the latter they don't even attempt to win as the quarter finals is seen as success season after season. As a fan, I would find that completely depressing and would be more than happy to take my chances with a different manager who might actually attempt to win trophies. Arsenal should be spending the rest of this season making sure the right replacement is on place and stand Wenger down at the end of it. They should be sounding Klopp out. It might work out, it might not, but they won't win anything with Wenger.
I've said recently that it must be really **** being an Arsenal fan. They pretty much know how every season is going to pan out.
Wenger in wenger out, shake it all about There's a match day song jibe at Arsenal fans in there somewhere
I suppose we all had a dislike for Wenger in his early days, especially when he won the prem, but on a personal basis, I have sort of mellowed to the stubborn old goat. But maybe that's down to United having the upper hand over the Arse, rather than an admiration. From an outsiders viewpoint, Arse have two problems, firstly Wenger will not spend big money, and is convinced he can find unheard of talent for peanuts, and then develop them into superstars. Second point is Arse always want to score the perfect goal. In Wengers mind, that consists of a pass out from the goalkeeper, involving most of the players playing pretty one touch football, and after 83 passes, with opposition going dizzy someone taps it into an empty net. The reality is no matter who your are playing, that sort of goal comes once in a lifetime. With Wengers style, he ain't going to change now, so I can see the point of the complaints from the Arse supporters. But, who will they attract to have a better track record? Can you see the likes of Gardiola, Klopp or Ancelloti being tempted.? Nope, neither can I.
Me too. Dammit. Regardless of what the Arse fans do, I don't see Wenger leaving until he decides to, or he finally misses out on the top four. As long as Arsenal is a plc they will never put the constant CL cash he brings in at risk. Not only does he always get them to the CL, he always gets them out of the group too, which is better than Mancini, Pellegrini, Di Matteo, Benitez, most likely Rodgers, and even SAF a couple of times. Unless Arsenal fans stop being so willing to pay through the nose to be consistent nearly men, the money he brings in will always save Wenger's skin. Get rid of him and they'll probably win more league and FA cups, and have a better chance of a title, but also have a bigger chance of dropping out of the top four, particularly with a fair bit more competition for spots now. And as Liverpool have shown the past few years, one or two years out of the top four can soon turn into permanent mediocrity if the replacement manager isn't up to the task.
Yes Matth but the thing is, unless you are David Moyes, the new manager will get the opportunity to buy some players he fancies before he starts. Arsenal are a decent striker, centre half, manager and less injuries away from being title challengers. They should challenge, the reason they don't is the defeatist mentality Wenger has instilled into them.
