    For me I'd say no.

Don't care what a player is like when the team is doing well as anyone could captain then. The captain needs to be the player whose head doesn't drop when things are going badly, perhaps even the one who relishes the challenge of that. I'm not entirely convinced we have anyone quite like that but out of our current group I'd put Colo, Toite and even the likes of Taylor and Raylor above him (though clearly Raylor can't realistically be captain of the first team). He has got better though!

For me. moussa embodies everything you say. He grabbed the team by the scruff of the neck today and not for the first time.
He is our Toure and don't forget mate, Colo has been dog piss for large parts of the calendar year as has his arsenal shirt wearing mate Tiote.

This season perhaps and he has been our best player. The end of last season - and beginning of this - I really didn't see any captains in our team and yet now I see a handful of players stepping up. I find it almost impossible to make sense of it.

Agreed. A great conundrum to compute.

Not at the expense of Colo, but I see him as an ideal choice when Colo is absent.

With Colo being absent for a fair bit each season now then the choice of who steps in becomes more important. Isn't De Jong officially the vice captain? Seem to remember something being said at the start of the season. Can't really comment on whether he's a good captain till we see him play tho!

It just shows you how form comes into things in football. We couldn't get a result six weeks ago. But now we look like we can hold our own against most. I like the youth in our team. You can tell they are together and you can also tell they Are enjoying football again. Pardew deserves credit for that. Sissy is playing well. Captain.... Not for me. A special mention for colback as well. He keeps things tidy in midfield without the fouls that tiote brings.

As a few have mentioned, Sissoko is perfect captain material when things are going well as they are now, but when things aren't (like post-christmas last season) his head drops and he is a non-entity on the pitch!

Clever by Pardew. Perfect short term option as it seems to inspire him to go up another level. Could he sustain that as full time captain? Probably not. He is not really the type to organise, rally the troops. I'm a big fan of centre back captains, they see the whole game in front of the tactically.

I'm a big fan of CB and DCM captains because when things are going badly all they need to is power into a tackle and shout at others and it gets the crowd going.

You don't need to be a captain for that though to be honest. I'm not sure it's as big a deal in football as people make out, other sports yes.

Me too. Easier to lead people around you from those positions and puts you at the heart of the play. Certainly on the nitty gritty of amateur football over the local park where prop,e get stuck into each other.

I don't really get why professionals who actually make it as far as Prem level aren't all virtually like captains anyway. Funny how some at that level still need motivating. If I were playing for the Toon every week, if front of all those fans, then I wouldn't need to rely on somebody else inspiring me to give 100%.

Moussa will make a great captain.
Have any of our previous captains ever been sent off.
    Course they have.

What a stupid moronic sending off. Still could be, but will have to grow up first. No more ridiculous crap like that.

I see many reasons why he won't make a captain, and plenty why he will. Today was neither and is part of football. The biggest reason he won't is he probably won;t be here long enough!
