Farage - We are the only party to promise a referendum Interviewer - You said that you would just pull us out Farage - I never said that Interviewer shows clip of him saying it Farage - It was a slip of the tongue Interviewer - Do you think the electorate want private insurance instead of the NHS Farage - I never said that Interviewer shows clip of him saying it Farage - That was a while ago Interviewer - It was a month ago Farage - A week is a long time in politics Interviewer - Do you agree with your candidate that you well deport Europeans if we leave the EU Farage - He never said that Interviewer shows clip of him saying it Farage - He didn't mean it - he was tired These are just 3 examples in the last month and people still say they will vote UKIP. I despair.
Oh, I forgot that the tories, labour and the lib dems have never gone back on something they have said!
I thought you lived in a Rock solid Tory area KIO. The overwhelming majority of East Anglia is blue on the political map apart from North Norfolk and Cambridge. Even Norwich has one Tory MP. I honestly can't see Labour making many gains in this part of the world.
Norwich has also one LibDem JWM. That said, I have always been very interested politically but find myself bereft for the main parties as they have all sold out in some way or other. Cameron is panicking and playing the anti-Euro card for all he is worth, Clegg is a liability in that he sold out on the tuition fees (although in fairness he was not the Prime Minister and it is a coalition agreement) and Milipede is the worst Labour leader possibly ever and is embarrasing his own party almost daily. Farage is a plank and scares me - just imagine him as PM! If you haven't come out in a cold sweat then you have not pictured this scenario properly. The examples above are almost laughable as to his flip-flopping. There is nobody sadly, very reminiscent of the USA particularly in the election where Reagan beat Carter. What a sorry state of affairs we have and the future looks very worrying whichever way we go. I am not a tory naturally but think that this might be the least worst option going forward. Jeez!!!
We could be in a total nightmare scenario where Labour end up coming second place in England winning fewer seats but able to form a government with the support of the SNP! We will then have a paralysis in government as by then the SNP MPs will not be able to vote on English legislation or TAX issues as they have been devolved to Scotland! So basically a party coming second can end up in Power but not have the Power to govern! What a dogs dinner they have made of devolution!
For those not aware of Norwich/Norfolk politics at the last General Election Lib Dems won Norwich South (a University seat won on the tuition fees promise ) and the Tories won Norwich North. The first time that Labour have lost both Norwich seats since the 1920's. Until boundary changes a few years ago Norwich North was a safe Labour seat and Norwich South tended to go with the party who won the overall election. Following boundary changes Norwich North became more marginal but Norwich South became safer for Labour and in the election before last both seats returned Labour MP's with healthy majorities. Labour lost Norwich North in a by-election when Ian Gibson resigned and the Tories held it at the General Election. In Norwich South the Lib Dems came from nowhere to beat Labour's Charles Clarke by 300 votes. In normal circumstances Labour, despite Ed Miliband, would be certain to take Norwich South and likely to take Norwich North. Labour hold a healthy majority on Norwich Council and also run Norfolk County Council as the largest party. Not really true to say Norfolk is a ' sea of blue '
Only because Westminster won't let go of English matters. What is wrong with scrapping County and District Councils, forming far larger Regional Councils with the same powers given to Scotland which just leaves the House of Commons to deal with UK matters - simples!!
The Tories hold all but 2 of the Westminster seats in Norfolk so I would say it is a sea of blue with a speck of Red and Yellow!
Changing the subject slightly. Just read the immigration bollocks coming from Cameron. My company supply and service industrial weighing equipment for over 300 customers across East Anglia and I can tell you that if he were to instigate his proposals it would bankrupt some companies. Most of our food is produced by hard working Eastern european workers, take these workers away or reduce them and that would be it. Why do the immigrants become a target for political parties? They are genrally hard working people who put in a lot more than they take out. It's difficult because I can't bring myself to vote for labour but dislike the Tories and what they stand for. Urrrrggghh.
I wonder how much in tax was lost from the rich leaving compared to the money France got back from the EU. Meanwhile we are absolutely destroying our key public services and having to pay the EU extra for the pleasure. The Tory's not content with attacking the pay and conditons of public servants, whilst significantly increasing their workload to pay for the mistakes of their rich chums (Banker's etc) are also systematically using the media in an attempt to turn the public against them (Doctor's, Teacher's, Police Officers, Social workers etc). Of course they have such a good job that people are queing up to get into those professions, we're over run with Teachers & Doctors. Of course they only deal with normal people, the Torys & their chums go private. Anyone who thinks the Mitchell saga has anything to do with someone swearing at a police officer or calling them a pleb is deluded. Rant over Oh and I'm certainly no leftie
Without going over the 3 points mentioned in detail as things are never as clear cut as the media like to present them. After all it is in their vested interest to maintain the current party political system. But isn't it interesting that the public say that politicians aren't human and never listen and as soon as they make a mistake or appear to change their mind on something (& I'm not saying that is what happened in these 3 examples) they get slagged off for it. I'm sure if anyone of us was put under the scrutiny that Farage has come under from the Tory / Labour owned media we would appear inconsistant, after all most of us aren't even consistent when discussing our team.
Notwithstanding that the media have a vendetta against the only Man and party who really do give a damn about our country, of course no Conservative or Labour politician has ever lied to the electorate have have they? There are bloody too many to mention ! P.S. The more the media (in particular the Daily Fail) slag off UKIP and Mr Farage digging up as much dirt as they can, the more votes they will secure. Christ if they spent as much time digging the dirt on Lib/Lab/Con, there would be no other news to report Rant over
Labour will retake Waveney (Majority 700) The incumbent is a ****** and the ex Labour MP very well thought of. I wouldnt be surprised to see UKIP win Gt Yarmouth. I know a couple of Labour voters intending to vote UKIP tactically there. On the OP I loved the judge's comment that the cop "Lacked the wit to make it up".
Just telling the truth JWM, he is known as "Tim,nice but dim" I once had the pleasure of beating him in Southwold, takes some doing that losing to Labour in Islington-on-sea.
I told myself I wasn't going to get involved in this one, but I couldn't let this go. The fact so many so called 'intelligent' people have bought into this this bizarre lie that Farage is the "only person who really cares about this country" is testament to just how easily fooled some people are, something that I have to say I find not only very worrying, but perhaps also rather frightening. The bloke is a liar and a charlatan, and for anyone to hold him up as some kind of saviour for our nation is a ****ing disgrace if you ask me.
